There is not the slightest difference in that (Prajna). The Prajna Paramita that includes appearances has differences in the way it understands the pervasiveness of the realm of phenomena, etc. These two Prajna Paramitas should also be understood as being in the manner of main and secondary. Secondly, in establishing the emptiness of the object, there is also what is explained based on what, what is explained based on the object, and what Dharma is explained. The first is: Here it is said, "Those who see this nature of conditions, the wise will attain cessation." What is the thusness of dependent arising that is spoken of? How does a Bodhisattva see it? Answer: Its own nature is not an object like us, whose eyes of wisdom are covered by the thick darkness of ignorance, but is the realm of activity of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who have eyes of wisdom that see the thusness as it is, having removed the dimming darkness of ignorance with the eye medicine of the undeceiving emptiness. Therefore, one should ask them. If it is said from the Prajna Paramita, etc., "How does a Bodhisattva who practices the Prajna Paramita see the thusness of dependent arising," etc., should it not be explained based on the scriptures? Answer: People like us cannot independently show the thusness based on the scriptures, because the intention of the scriptures is difficult to ascertain. Although these words are spoken independently, we can also ascertain the intention of the scriptures by relying on the instructions of the person who has become a valid person who explains the intention of the scriptures without error. Therefore, "How does he realize the extremely profound Dharma, because of scripture and also reason, therefore, the system of the noble Nagarjuna, should be spoken according to how it is." How does a Bodhisattva who practices the Prajna Paramita realize the extremely profound Dharma, the thusness of dependent arising, through the scriptures of the Sugata, and also because it must be ascertained by other reasons, how does he see the thusness of dependent arising, thus the noble Nagarjuna with scripture without

Having understood without error, in the Madhyamaka treatises, he clearly explains the suchness of all phenomena as they are, through reasoning and scripture. Therefore, I shall also explain, in accordance with how it exists, how the suchness of phenomena is clarified by scripture and reasoning from the system of the noble Nagarjuna. If you ask: How can it be known that the noble Nagarjuna definitely has an unerring understanding of the meaning of scripture? Answer: From scripture. As it is said in the noble Lankavatara Sutra: In the southern country of Vidarbha, there will be a monk named Shri, who will be called Naga, who will destroy the sides of existence and non-existence. In the world, he will teach my Mahayana, attain the stage of great joy, and go to Sukhavati. And also in the noble Mahamegha Sutra: Ananda, this Licchavi youth named Sarvadarshanapriya, four hundred years after my nirvana, will become a monk named Naga, greatly expand my teachings, and eventually in the world called Pure Light, he will become a Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, named Jnana Utpatti Prabha. Thus it is said. Therefore, it is established that this treatise has unerring scripture. Secondly, regarding where to explain it, there are two aspects: examining the vessel of the listener, and advising them to listen. The first is: This treatise, which teaches dependent arising without error, should only be taught to those who have planted the seed of emptiness in their minds through the power of past habituation. It should not be taught to others, because even if they have heard about emptiness, they will become greatly meaningless due to engaging with it in a distorted way. For example, sometimes, due to not believing in emptiness, they abandon it and go to lower realms. Sometimes, by grasping the meaning of emptiness as non-existent, they generate wrong views by denigrating all things. Therefore, the teacher should especially recognize the difference in faith and explain the view of emptiness to the listeners. And how else? To this one, emptiness should be taught. To this one, it should not be taught.

If one can know this, then one can definitely ascertain it from external signs. For example: Even ordinary beings, upon hearing about emptiness, will experience joy in their hearts again and again. Tears of joy will fill their eyes, and the hairs on their bodies will stand on end. Whoever experiences these things has the seed of perfect enlightenment. Therefore, the vessel for teaching is such a person. So, the ultimate truth, which has characteristics that will be explained, should be taught to them. Why? Because they will develop the qualities that follow from it. Such a listener will not only not experience the negative effects of wrongly engaging with emptiness, but will also develop all the qualities that follow the view of emptiness. How so? They will feel that hearing about emptiness is like finding a treasure. In order not to lose it, they will always take and maintain vows. They will give generously and rely on compassion. They will cultivate patience and dedicate their merit to enlightenment, dedicating it completely to liberate beings, and respect bodhisattvas. They will think: If I fall into the lower realms due to impure vows, then the view of emptiness will be interrupted. Therefore, they will realize this and always take and maintain vows properly. Even if I am born in the higher realms by relying on vows, if I become poor and focus on finding food, clothing, and other necessities of life, then hearing about emptiness will be interrupted. Realizing this, they will give generously. The view of emptiness, when grasped by compassion, leads to buddhahood itself, and not by anything else. Therefore, they will rely on compassion. Anger leads to falling into the lower realms and obtaining an ugly appearance, so for this reason, the noble ones will be displeased.
