Because it is a conforming result. Although it can exhaust the remaining results of previously committed non-virtuous actions, one does not recognize this and instead thinks, "This person has harmed me." In order to create the seed for future suffering that far exceeds the present suffering, one harms others and, through anger, how one is led to the lower realms. Therefore, just as a doctor endures cutting a wound with a sharp scalpel in order to cure a disease, it is reasonable to endure the cause of immediate suffering. To show that impatience is not only the cause of producing undesirable results, but also the cause of exhausting long-accumulated virtues, it is said: Because of anger towards the bodhisattvas, the merit arising from generosity and discipline, accumulated for hundreds of thousands of eons, is destroyed in an instant. Therefore, there is no sin greater than impatience. Because bodhisattvas, even if they exaggerate and fabricate faults, whether true or untrue, of other sons of the Buddhas, even if they generate anger for just a moment, they destroy the merit accumulated from generosity and discipline for hundreds of thousands of eons. What need is there to mention if someone who is not a bodhisattva generates anger towards bodhisattvas? Therefore, just as the amount of water in the great ocean cannot be determined by numbers, the limit of its ripening cannot be determined either. Thus, the sin that throws undesirable results and destroys virtue is none other than impatience, that is, anger. Furthermore, it makes one unattractive, leads to non-holiness, and steals the wisdom to distinguish between reason and unreason. Impatience quickly throws one into the lower realms. Because anger makes one's face ugly and complexion dark, it makes one unattractive; because one engages in evil deeds under its influence, it leads to non-holiness; because one is oppressed by anger, one becomes confused about what to accept and reject, so it also steals the wisdom to distinguish between reason and unreason. Moreover, abandoning one's own kind, impatience throws one into the abyss of the lower realms. Second, patience.

Regarding the aspect of advising entry (into the Buddhist path), patience produces merits contrary to what has been said (about negative consequences). Thus, and so on, it has been said. What are the merits contrary to what has been said? It is desired by beautiful and sacred beings, one becomes proficient in understanding caste and non-caste, and other than this, one will be reborn as gods and humans. Therefore, having understood the faults and merits of anger and patience of ordinary beings and bodhisattvas, abandoning impatience, the noble ones should always rely on praised patience. Having understood the faults of anger of ordinary beings and the merits of patience of bodhisattvas as has been said, from the perspective of abandoning impatience, one should always rely on the patience praised by the noble ones. Third, in order to show the difference between mundane and supramundane. Even if dedicated to perfect complete enlightenment, if there is clinging to the three aspects, then it is mundane. Thus it has been said. Any patience, even if dedicated to perfect enlightenment, if there is clinging to the object of patience, the person who is patient, and the sentient being towards whom patience is exercised, these three are called mundane patience paramita. If there is no clinging, then the Buddha says that it is the supramundane paramita. Being completely embraced by the Prajnaparamita, if there is no clinging to the three spheres, it is called the supramundane patience paramita. Second, special characteristics, general qualities of meditation, others showing that, in that place, meditation and direct perception arise, and greed and hatred are completely exhausted. That also constantly, for worldly beings, is able to subdue the desire for lust. In the third ground, the illuminating ground, the bodhisattva arises with the four meditations, as well as the four formless absorptions, the four immeasurables, and the five superknowledges. Realizing that dependent origination is immutable, and that there is no nature of destruction, greed, hatred, and delusion are mostly completely exhausted. That bodhisattva, by the power of ripening, takes birth as the lord of the gods, and he also constantly practices the means of destroying the desire for lust of worldly beings, as well as sentient beings.
