Explanation of the Third Chapter Explanation of the Third Chapter Now, the third generation of mind, called "Illuminating," will be explained. It can be understood through three summarized points: namely, the nature of the ground as the basis, the qualities of the ground as characteristics, and stating the qualities of the ground and concluding. From the first perspective: The fire that burns all the firewood of knowable objects, because light arises from it, this third ground is called "Illuminating." As it is said. In this stage of the third generation of mind, because the light of the wisdom fire of the nature of peace arises, burning all the firewood of the obscurations of knowable objects, these third generations of mind are called the "Illuminating Ground." At that time, what kind of light will arise from the fire of wisdom? For the sons of the Sugata: At that time, an appearance like the light of copper will arise. When the sons of the Sugata obtain this third generation of mind, just like the state before the sun rises, an appearance like the light of copper will appear, and the appearance of wisdom will become even brighter relative to the second ground. Second, showing the qualities of the ground as characteristics, mainly showing the perfection of patience, and secondarily showing other qualities such as meditation, divided into two types. The first type: In this ground, the perfection of patience is particularly shown, incidentally showing the praise of patience, and the difference between mundane and supramundane, there are three types. From the first perspective: Even if some who are not the place of anger arise, with flesh and bones, cutting off for a long time, they will generate more patience towards the cutter. As it is said. Even if some are not the place of arising anger, for the Bodhisattva who does not harm, there are some people who are disturbed in their hearts and arise anger, with flesh and bones, cutting off piece by piece for a long time, such a cutter will not only not be disturbed in his heart, but will think: From the cause of this karma, they will endlessly experience the suffering of hells and so on, and thus generate more patience. Therefore, with the power of compassion, they endure the harm

Furthermore, it explains patience, to show that it can also be endured through the power of wisdom. The Bodhisattva with the view of selflessness says: Who did what to whom, when, and how? Because he sees all dharmas as images, he can also endure. That is to say, the Bodhisattva who views all dharmas with the understanding of the selflessness of persons and dharmas, because he does not discriminate in the three circles (agent, object, and action), that is, who is the harmer, to whom is the harm done, when is the harm done, and in what way is the harm done, therefore the Bodhisattva can endure harm. The reason for not discriminating in the three circles is that he sees all external and internal dharmas as images, without inherent existence. Incidentally, showing praise for patience, advising people to turn away from unfriendly anger, and advising people to enter the antidote of patience. First, if one is angry at the one who caused harm, can being angry at him reverse the harm that has already been done? Therefore, being angry at him is certainly meaningless, and it will also contradict the next life. As it is said, if others cause harm to me, if I am angry and resentful towards the harmer, can my resentment and anger reverse the harm that was done to me before? It cannot be reversed, because it is futile to resent him. Therefore, being resentful and angry at the harmer is also meaningless in this life, because what was to be done has already been done. Resenting the harm done is not only meaningless in this life, but it will also contradict the happiness of the next life. Because under the influence of anger, it will cause unpleasant results to ripen. To prevent those who are clearly enjoying the fruits of their past karma, but do not understand this principle, but instead think that others have caused harm to them and want to retaliate, it is said: The very thing you want to say is to exhaust the results of previously committed unwholesome actions. Because harming others and being angry brings suffering, how can you lead it as a seed? The suffering of some people whose bodies are injured by sharp weapons is caused by enemies, but this is actually the result of their previous karma of killing.
