Explanation of Chapter Twenty-Six Explanation of Chapter Twenty-Six Fourth, explaining the nature of dependent origination, which is the basis of the characteristic of non-arising. Regarding how the limbs of dependent origination function and how the limbs of dependent origination cease, the first is: Here, "Whatever is dependently originated is said to be emptiness." So, what is the dependent origination that is said to be emptiness? Or, "Whoever sees dependent origination sees suffering, as well as the arising, cessation, and path of suffering." So, what is the dependent origination through seeing which it is said that one sees the truth? Dependent origination is of two kinds: external and internal. The first is: from a seed, a sprout arises, and from that a trunk, as well as leaves, flowers, and fruits, etc., arise in sequence. The second is: from the condition of ignorance, actions, etc., arise, up to old age and death from the condition of birth. Among these, in order to show the detailed classification of the limbs of internal dependent origination, which is the main part: Obscured by ignorance, for the sake of rebirth, the three actions are accumulated; by those deeds, one goes to the realms. Beings obscured and covered by ignorance, which has the characteristic of clinging to things as they appear, accumulate the three actions—meritorious, non-meritorious, and unwavering—in order to bring about rebirth. By those deeds, they will go to the cycle of the five realms. Then, therefore, conditioned by action, consciousness enters into the realms. The consciousness produced by the three actions accumulated by beings, as the condition of action, becomes the seed of non-cyclic existence, and in accordance with the action, will cause beings to enter and be born in the various realms such as the gods. Then, after time has passed, when consciousness has entered, name and form arise. When consciousness, conditioned by action, enters the mother's womb and becomes unconscious, in the form of form and form's shadow, when the final aggregate of death ceases, the aggregates of name and form, which become the part of birth, will form.
