Also, it will become the fault of having no agent. Therefore. Secondly, to criticize by analyzing each word with two words separately: The agent and the become, and with The action unbecome, and become and unbecome, All do not act, because it has been shown The reason above. The agent and the become do not act, and the action unbecome, and the become and unbecome do not act, because, For the become, there is nothing to do. With this, the reason above has been shown. The action unbecome also does not act, because, For the action, there will be no cause. If there is no cause, then there is no result. Etc., with this, the reason above has been shown. The action become and unbecome do not act, because, For the become and unbecome, Being mutually contradictory, how can there be existence? With this, the reason above has been shown. The agent and the unbecome, The action and the become, and with The become and unbecome, all do not act, Because the reason above has been shown. The agent and the unbecome do not act, because, If there is no cause, then there is no result. With this, the reason above has been shown. The action and the become do not act, because, For the become, there is nothing to do. With this, the fault has been shown. The action become and the unbecome do not act, because, For the become and the unbecome, one. As such it is proclaimed. The agent and the nature of become and unbecome, The action and the become and unbecome, Not acting, this is also the reason, It should be known that it has been shown above. The agent is the become, and the nature of the unbecome does not act, because, For the become and the unbecome, one. Being mutually contradictory, how can there be existence? With this, it should be known that the reason above has been shown. The action become does not act, because, For the become, there is nothing to do. Also, it will become an agent without action. As such it is proclaimed. The action unbecome also does not act, because, If there is no cause, then there is no result. As such it has been proclaimed. Therefore, for the homogeneous and heterogeneous, the establishment of the agent and the action is unreasonable in all ways. Secondly, showing dependent arising: If the agent and the action, etc., do not exist as such, then do things not exist, is that what you say? For those who proclaim things to have inherent existence, it is possible to slander in all ways by separating from things.

Therefore, when we say that all phenomena arise dependently and are without inherent existence, who are we then slandering? As it is said in the Ratnavali: "Thinking that a mirage is water, and going there, if one then thinks that there is no water there, that is utter foolishness. Likewise, thinking that the world, like a mirage, has a true nature, or does not have a true nature, that clinging is ignorance, and if there is ignorance, there is no liberation." Not understanding reality, one previously clings to things as having a true meaning, and only later ascertains the meaning of suchness. When the nature of phenomena, as described above, cannot be ascertained, how could non-existence ever exist? As stated above. Therefore, all conventional truths, which are similar to the water of a mirage, are established only by acknowledging that they arise from the combination of various causes and conditions, and not by any other means. For example: "The agent depends on the action, and the action also depends on the agent; other than arising in dependence, no cause for establishment is seen." Because one who does not perform any action is not an agent, the agent depends on the action; because what the agent is doing is called action, the action also arises in dependence on the agent, and other than that, no other cause for their establishment is seen. Secondly, comparing this principle to other things: Likewise, one should understand the proximate cause, in order to eliminate action and agent. Just as action and agent are established in dependence on each other, and not by their own nature, so too, the proximate cause and the one who proximately causes should be understood as being established in dependence on each other, and not by their own nature. Because the inherent existence of action and agent has already been eliminated, and because the proximate cause and the one who proximately causes also belong to the category of action and agent. Through the agent and action, one should understand the remaining things. A wise person, through the reasoning that refutes the inherent existence of the agent and action, and shows that they are established through mutual dependence, should understand the remaining things that are different from the agent, action, proximate cause, and the one who proximately causes, such as the produced, the producer, the seen, the seer, the characterized,

It should be understood that the painted object, the one with limbs, and the limbs themselves are also established in dependence on each other, and are not inherently existent. Therefore, the Bhagavan said: I have shown the terror of hell, and although I have caused countless beings to feel aversion, those beings who die and constantly go to evil destinies, those travelers never existed. Those who wield swords, great arrows, and weapons, and those who inflict harm do not exist, but by the power of conceptualization, in those hells, one sees weapons descending upon the body, but there are no weapons. Various pleasing flowers bloom, and golden palaces burn, delighting the mind, but there is no agent in this either, and they are all established by the power of conceptualization. By the power of conceptualization, the world is distinguished, and by holding onto concepts, fools are distinguished. The grasper and the grasped do not arise either. Complete conceptualization is like illusion and mirage. Thus it is said. In the Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way, the separate discussion on the examination of karma (Tibetan: ལས།, Sanskrit Devanagari: कर्म, Sanskrit Romanization: karma, Chinese literal meaning: action) and the agent, which is the commentary on the eighth chapter.
