First, stating the previous position: Phenomena such as consciousness are inherently existent, because action and agent exist as their cause. For example, the Blessed One said: 'Beings associated with ignorance also perform meritorious manifest accumulations, and also perform non-meritorious and immovable manifest accumulations.' If this is the case, to refute this view, it is divided into refuting the agent and action, and comparing this principle with others. The first part is further divided into direct refutation and showing dependent origination. The first part is further divided into refuting individual agents and refuting the three aggregates as agents. The first part is further divided into stating the proposition and explaining the proof. The first part is: Agent and action are merely nominal designations, not truly existent. For example: That which has become an agent does not perform that which has become an action; that which is not an agent does not perform that which has not become an action. That which has become an agent, because it has function, does not perform that which has become an action with function; that which has not become an agent, because it has no function, does not perform that which has not become an action without function. The second part is explaining the proof of the first proposition: Having become, there is no action; without an agent, it also becomes action. Because that which has become an agent has no other action, the action of the agent is only one, and it has already been used to represent the agent; because after becoming an agent, there is no second action of what action to perform. When there is no second action, the agent does not perform action, and at that time it is also impossible to become an action that does not depend on the agent, just as the son of a barren woman does not make a pot. Therefore, that which has become an agent does not perform action. That which has become an action is also not performed by the agent, because having become an action, there is no action; without action, it also becomes an agent. That which has become an action is with function, and for the expression of action with function that has already been obtained, there is originally no other action of what action to perform. When action has no second action, it does not perform" } ] ============================================================

At that time, the agent of that action is without action. If one becomes an agent without performing the action, that is also unreasonable. For one who has not committed the five heinous crimes is not seen as the agent of the five heinous crimes. The proof of the second commitment is: If one has not become an agent, if one performs what has not become an action, then the action will be without cause, and the agent will also be without cause. If one who has not become an agent, because of being separated from action, performs what has not become an action, then both action and agent will become causeless, because the reason for the use of the terms action and agent is precisely the possession of action. For example, just as one says "Lhas Byin is cooking rice" after seeing that he possesses the action of cooking. It is also unreasonable to admit that there is no cause, for if there is no cause, then the result and the cause will not be reasonable. If there is no cause, then the result of the pot, such as clay, and the cause of the pot, such as clay and wheel, will not be reasonable. If that is not the case, then the action of transforming clay into a pot, the agent of that potter, and the doing of the wheel, etc., are not reasonable. If actions, etc., are not reasonable, then virtue and non-virtue do not exist. Here, when Lhas Byin performs the action of abandoning killing, etc., virtue will arise for him, and when he performs the ten non-virtuous actions, such as killing, etc., non-virtue will arise. At any time when action, doing, agent, etc., are not reasonable, virtue such as abandoning killing, etc., and non-virtue such as killing, etc., do not exist. If virtue and non-virtue do not exist, then there is no fruit arising from those two. If the cause, virtue and non-virtue, do not exist, then the ripening of desirable and undesirable fruits arising from those two will also not exist. If there is no fruit, then the path to liberation and becoming a heavenly realm is not reasonable. If the worldly path has results such as meditative absorption and the formless realms, then it is reasonable to cultivate the worldly path for that purpose, and if the result of the path beyond the world, Nirvana, exists, then for that purpose, the eightfold noble path
