After jointly establishing the two lands, he ascended to the sky, about a fathom high, and remained there. All the lords and subjects uttered cries of despair. Looking back, he spoke these words: Listen, lords and subjects of Tibet! Your minds are distracted, your eyes wander, you are very scattered. Even when suffering arises, you do not remember the Dharma. This is the thought you should remember! Let go of the affairs of this life! If you want to abandon samsara, come back to me! There is no greater happiness than this. The faith of Tibetans is superficial. During the day, they are distracted by worldly affairs; at night, they fall into ignorant sleep. In between, they are busy with rituals to appease spirits. Life is wasted in this meaningless way. My views and actions are completely different from yours. If you let go of worldly affairs, come back to me! There is no other way to practice the Dharma. The diligence of Tibetans is only for this life. Life is wasted on things to be done tomorrow and the day after. Even if you die now, you do not remember the Dharma. Know that this is the most important thing! You have forgotten to accumulate food and wealth. If you understand that you must let go of everything at the time of death, come back to me! There is no other way to liberate from miserliness. The thoughts of Tibetans are mostly bad. They are busy conquering enemies, protecting relatives, and expanding territory. Life grows old, but they do not remember the Dharma. Know that this is being deceived! They are immersed in shame, profit, and fame. Leave your homeland and return to (267b) me! There is no other way to eliminate obstacles to Dharma practice. You greedy people of the Tibetan region! One mouth cannot be filled, and even if you lose the nine cherished things, you do not remember the Dharma. Know that this is the wealth that can be taken with you! You waste your energy on meaningless things. If you feel weary, come back to me! There is no other way to reduce shortcomings. Do not chase after external appearances, let awareness reach its limit, and return to me! In the great palace of bliss, Padmasambhava, for the benefit of beings, do not give a short farewell, come back! Do not separate, do not be discouraged! Meet me and look outward! If you cannot see, then abide in equanimity. Look again, look again, do not look distractedly! When it appears during the day, practice Great Compassion. When it appears at night, practice Padmasambhava myself. Because you do worldly things, you cannot generate the sacred Dharma. Lords and subjects, let go of the affairs of this life! Having said this, he mounted a precious steed, and four heroes led the horse, ascending into the sky amidst a swirling rainbow of light. The lords and subjects, like discarding fish bait, forgot their hunger and thirst, and their bodies were exhausted. Thereafter, the king, ministers, and all the lords and subjects, together, remained for twenty-five years at the edge of Thang Sho rdzong thang in the village of Mangyul (present-day Gyirong County).

On the ground, look towards the direction Guru Rinpoche departed. From within the sun's rays, like a crow, he departed, shimmering with light. Then, like a pigeon, like a sparrow, like a bee, like a mosquito, he went. Then, even when looking, the eyes could not see him. Even when watching attentively, he was not seen. At midday, when the sun shone, he was seen having crossed over India, not yet arrived in Oddiyana (Udyana), but having descended and seated himself on top of Jambudvipa Mountain. Then, the next morning, looking attentively, near the iron city of the island of Simhala (Sri Lanka), he was seated in the cool shade of a Champaka tree. He saw the intelligent, excellent horse stirring golden sand, and the king of medicine, Satī, eating. Near the Guru, there were demon daughters, a gathering of a thousand beautiful and youthful maidens, receiving the rays of the Dharma and developing devotion. Demons and demonesses, in a doorless iron house, the king of demons, Garland of Skulls (Kapala Beads), was seated freely. All the demons were seen bowing and showing respect. Then, the king, ministers, subjects, and retinue, bowed outwards and departed to their respective homes. When the queen reached the palace, Prince Mutig (Pearl) said to the queen: The Guru of Oddiyana (Udyana), who has meaning in seeing, hearing, remembering, and touching, has departed, leaving the land of Tibet empty. The father, the king, has passed away to the heavens, and I feel emptiness in body, mind, and perception. Do you all not feel emptiness? All of us, the lords and subjects, wish to circle the bridge of Shang. When the king gave this order, the assembly of ministers replied: Listen, sovereign, king of Dharma! What is the use of a bridge, please return to the palace. The remaining lords and subjects, thirst for the sovereign's arrival, like the parched. Please return quickly to the great monastery. Having said this, the lords and subjects returned to their own lands. From the extensive compilation of the life story and liberation of Guru Padmasambhava of Oddiyana (Udyana): The chapter of departing from Tibet to subdue the demons in the southwest, the one hundred and seventh.
