Do not depend on other conditions. This means that practicing other Dharmas requires favorable conditions such as food, clothing, good health, suitable water and soil, and not being disturbed by others. However, practicing this "Mind Training" does not require dependence on these conditions. Because the absence of these favorable conditions is actually a supporting condition for this Dharma. Therefore, now take the virtuous deeds of accumulating merit as a companion for mind training. Now mainly practice. This means that from beginningless time, like an old beggar, one has wandered only in the three lower realms. Now, through some good deeds, one has obtained a precious human body with leisure and opportunity that is difficult to find even in millions of kalpas. Now, instead of striving for this life, it is more important to practice the Dharma for future lives. In the Dharma, practice is more important than listening and contemplation. Among other practices, the practice of training the mind of enlightenment is the most important. Moreover, rather than practicing through analysis of scriptures, it is better to rely on the oral instructions of the guru and persevere in practicing the antidotes, no matter what. In terms of conduct, it is better to sit in one's seat and practice than to do other things. It is better to stay at home and practice than to leave one's homeland. Cherish these teachings. Do not invert. This means that six inversions should be abandoned. Not enduring the suffering of practicing Dharma, but enduring the hardships of pursuing desires, protecting relatives, and conquering enemies, is inverted patience. Not desiring to eliminate sins, complete accumulations, and transform thoughts, but instead regarding the perfections of this life as virtues and desiring to obtain them, is inverted desire. Striving in listening, contemplation, and meditation, but not tasting the flavor of the Dharma, instead tasting the flavors of inner and outer desires, and remembering past experiences of enjoying desires and defeating enemies, is inverted tasting. Not cultivating compassion for beings who are in suffering and the causes of suffering, but instead practicing asceticism, and cultivating compassion for those who suffer from the poverty of practicing Dharma, is inverted compassion. Not accumulating wealth that can be used for Dharma practice and that one can control, but instead accumulating wealth, protecting relatives, and pursuing the glory of this life, is inverted effort. Performing virtuous deeds from the Buddha to sentient beings, and the result of that

Do not rejoice in those who possess merit, but instead rejoice and rejoice when enemies encounter misfortune and suffer setbacks, this is the reversal of rejoicing. For these six reversals and non-reversals, one should take and abandon. Do not alternate. It means, sometimes practicing mind training, sometimes reciting, and these two sometimes empty, sometimes guarding, sometimes alternating, should be abandoned. Also, for the sake of this life's enjoyment, creating and increasing sins and afflictions, and sometimes practicing Dharma for the sake of the next life, this alternation should also be abandoned. Do not alternate, but practice Dharma with one mind and constantly, especially practicing mind training. Its essence is mind training. Practice thoroughly. It means, just like destroying small roots, when practicing mind training, do not hesitate, but turn the mind to one direction, and make a firm decision without hesitation to practice mind training. Is it beneficial to practice mind training first? If it is not beneficial, then recite it once, such a hesitant mentality should be abandoned. Because this is not abandoning the goal of craving comfort, it will not be able to eliminate diseases and demonic obstacles. Attain liberation through observation and analysis. It means, observe which part of the afflictions is heaviest in one's own mind, and then especially rely on the antidote to make great efforts to eliminate it. Then, observe the place and basis where afflictions arise, even if you do not think properly, observe how it arises. Or, relying on the antidote, the afflictions become slight, or do not arise, just think like this. Now, in order to prevent this affliction from ever staining the mind, one must repeatedly get used to putting on armor for the future. For the past and the future, rely on the antidote in the same way, and make efforts to eliminate the afflictions of both. Do not show off. It means, do not show off one's merits to others, or be arrogant, because the other person is indebted to oneself, or one has good deeds, or one is a wise person, a monk, a great person, or of noble birth, etc. Do not expect too much from people, pray to the gods. This is Rechungpa's teaching. Generally speaking, if you divide the flag of defeating the enemy in half to others, then others will also understand that they have defeated the enemy, and even if you act for others, selfish thoughts will not arise, and they will understand that it is what they should do.
