This is the teaching on practicing the 'Union of Awareness and Emptiness'. If you are too strict with mindfulness and awareness, it will cause the interference of conceptual thoughts; if you are too loose, you will fall into distraction. Therefore, like tethering the elephant of the mind to a pillar of single-pointed concentration with a rope, do not let it wander. By meditating in this way, you will not be attached to either samsara or nirvana, reaching a state of being without support, inexpressible, and free from all elaborations. This state cannot be described in words, but can only be realized through one's own experience or awareness. There will be no new sights appearing, but a kind of unadulterated and supreme view will arise from the depths of the heart. This is the recognition of the ordinary awareness. As Master Toktsé said: 'Ordinary awareness awakens in the center of the heart.' Lord Atisha also said: 'By realizing in a non-conceptual way, it can be called seeing emptiness. Not seeing is seeing, as stated in the profound sutras.' In that state, there is no seer and no seen, no beginning and no end, it is peaceful. It transcends existence and non-existence, is free from conceptual thoughts, has no attachment, no dwelling place, no coming and going, no analogy, is inexpressible, invisible, unchanging, and unconditioned. When a yogi realizes this state, they can remove the obscurations of afflictions and knowledge. Next is the interdependence of perfecting the post-meditation. Secondly, regarding the interdependence of perfecting the post-meditation: When meditating in this way, if the mind is not stable and wanders, immediately grasp it, relax without any modification, and let it naturally dissolve, just like pouring water into water. Similarly, for strong afflictions such as attachment, aversion, and ignorance, do not try to suppress them, nor indulge in them, nor confront them with antidotes. Instead, be aware of the moment when the affliction arises, relax directly into it, and let it naturally dissolve into emptiness. As Gotsangpa Rinpoche of the Drukpa Kagyu said: 'Even if conceptual thoughts arise, do not be afraid, because at the moment of remembrance, it is already realized as the original nature.' He also said: 'Even if conceptual thoughts arise in the original nature, they will naturally dissipate like darkness at dawn.' Jetsun Milarepa said: 'It is most blissful to practice one's own mind, conceptual thoughts are the magical display of the mind. One should transform the magical display into the path.' Saraha said: 'As long as the mind is still flowing, that is the nature of the Protector (referring to the deity or Buddha-nature). Are water and waves different?' The Ornament of Clear Realization states: 'Abiding in non-conceptual samadhi, like the sky, is non-conceptual and clear.' The Sampūṭa Tantra states: 'Conceptual thoughts themselves...' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Therefore, he said, 'Now purify your concepts.' Similarly, through this very method of utilizing the path, first, recognize all the appearances of the six consciousnesses through awareness, then practice on that basis, and after becoming accustomed to it, abide on the appearances. In this way, the arising and liberation of appearances occur simultaneously, thereby producing a wonderful state of 'appearance and mind merging.' At that time, whatever path arises, there will be no acceptance or rejection, but rather the pure nature will be revealed. As Saraha said, 'Whatever is seen in front, behind, or in the ten directions, that is it itself. Today, the illusion of the protector (Guanbo) like me has disappeared. Now I will not ask anyone.' And he said, 'Once enlightened, everything is it itself. No one can find anything else from it. Reading, holding, and meditating are all it. Holding the scriptures in one's heart is also it.' At that time, samsara and nirvana, concepts and Dharmakāya (the body of truth realized by the Buddhas), afflictions and wisdom, all become one realm. When wanting to arise, arise slowly, and with an illusory mind, do whatever good deeds of body, speech, and mind you can. If emptiness is not embraced by compassion, it will not become the path to Buddhahood. Therefore, cultivate loving-kindness, compassion, and bodhicitta, and with an illusory mind, contemplate that all sentient beings have happiness. Happiness means attaining the state of perfect enlightenment. To attain this state, cultivate loving-kindness combined with the cause—defiled and undefiled roots of virtue. Similarly, contemplate that sentient beings are free from the suffering of the three realms of samsara. To be free from suffering, cultivate compassion, contemplating that sentient beings are free from the causes of suffering—karma and the accumulation of afflictions. Then, radiate light from your right nostril, and let it enter from the right nostrils of all sentient beings. All the suffering of all sentient beings appears in the form of light, entering from your right nostril. All the suffering of all sentient beings ripens on me, and contemplate that all sentient beings are free from suffering. Then, release happiness from your left nostril in the form of light, giving it to all sentient beings, and contemplate that they all have happiness. Let the suffering of sentient beings ripen on me, abide in this, and contemplate that it transforms into undefiled great bliss. If you are skilled in this, you can truly practice the bodhicitta of exchanging self and others. After practicing in this way, I contemplate thus, by the power of my practice and all the roots of virtue accumulated in the three times, may... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
