Collection of Teachings by Omniscient Pema Karpo PK16: The Biography of Jetsun Thutop Zhab, 'The Wonderful Peacock in Full Play' The Biography of Jetsun Thutop Zhab, 'The Wonderful Peacock in Full Play' The Biography of Jetsun Thutop Zhab, 'The Wonderful Peacock in Full Play' Homage to the precious Guru! With blue-grey ashes, hair matted, nails grown from oily dust, Adorned with twenty offering hairs, the Vajradhara, lord of all, Like a bee gathering nectar from the lotus lips of all Buddhas, You are an emanation, flapping wings of vast qualities, generating winds of compassion, Scattering the mountain of samsara, resting in the palm of wisdom. With sharp claws of powerful strength, you end the sustenance of obstacles. Guru who plays on the shores of faith, lord of the dakinis, I prostrate to you! In this degenerate age, like the sun at its zenith, Pacifying the ignorance of all beings. Such deeds of the holy one, Are unmatched by thunderous clouds. Proclaimed by clouds of faith, The biography of realization, like the sound of summer thunder, Intoxicates the hearts of fortunate young peacocks, With the drink of joy. At that time, the secret lord of Roden, the Bhagavan Vajrapani Vajra Hand), out of compassion for all beings, manifested an illusion. There is a story worth listening to: A wealthy benefactor, living in ease due to his generosity; a place where songs, dances, and arts flourish, a place of relaxation filled with desire; in the mulberry groves of eastern Dakpo, in a city called Rangjenyi, a woman of noble lineage dreamed that a five-pronged vajra, the color of flawless blue, surrounded by a rainbow aura, entered her womb, and thus she conceived. After the completion of the months, she gave birth to a child with many auspicious signs, capable of giving cool nectar to the minds of all. In the perfect season, with gentle breezes, People gather like bees collecting honey. Rangje plays, the Dakpo region, Pure as a lotus without mud. One day, in that city, Attracted by the fragrance of merit, An auspicious lotus bloomed, A child was born with a joyful face. That was the beginning of virtue. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He was skilled in creating great undertakings, and became disillusioned with the vividly colored images of samsara (cyclic existence) painted with various colors. Out of causeless love for all sentient beings, he was motivated to benefit them, and supplicated with sweet words of respect for his parents. With great faith in the teachings of the Sugata (Buddha), he renounced his household life. He wandered like the stars of the seven sages covered by their own golden web of light, and then went to the monastery called Spamochoding. There, he took ordination from Khenpo Yeshe Wangchuk of Lower Bhutan and was given the name Yonten Yeshe. He became endowed with peaceful and gentle conduct. The sun of the Buddha's son, Opens the profound path of liberation, Taking steps of faith, Like the moon of youth. On whose arm of wisdom, He carries the great burden of deeds, At that time, this earth, Is like a platform built for rest. He listened to the instructions on the correct path from the Khenpo himself and Jetsun Wangchuk Gyaltsen, and putting what he had learned into practice, he went to Nyal Dreu Lhas. There, he studied the Prajnaparamita (Perfection of Wisdom) with Chinpo Tsenyapa, the Mahamaya (Great Illusion) with Do Rinpoche Jangchub Pal Drubpa in Gung Zhizhing, and Yoga and Kalachakra (Wheel of Time) with Dukor Zhapa Shakya Wangchukpa Dorje Ying in Nemo's Mon Drub Choding. He thoroughly studied the empowerments, generation stage, and completion stage, as well as the explanations of the tantras. He mastered the meaning of the words and became a great master of eloquence in gatherings of those skilled in debate. At that time, he manifested and personally met Padmasambhava, a master with a lotus hat of beautiful appearance. He received the kapala (skull cup) filled with amrita (nectar) that Padmasambhava gave him. Hearing the fame of the gentle Manjushri Chökyi Drakpa, he gained unwavering faith and went to the great court of the Dharma King, called Chögyal Lhunpo. His mind became one with the Dharma King, and he listened to the immeasurable profound and vast Dharma teachings, led by the Hevajra teachings of the Maitripa tradition, the explanations of the Root Tantra of the Marpa tradition, and the three Hevajra tantras and their instructions of the Kagyupa tradition. He also listened to the teachings of Drukpa Rinpoche Ngawang Chökyi Gyal. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
