1-311 If the three (referring to body, speech, and mind) are damaged, it is a great fault, and there is no doubt that one will suffer the fear of thieves and death. If the ears, lips, forehead, and nose are damaged, and the eyes are crooked, then the mantra practitioner himself will surely encounter various obstacles and die. If one looks up, breathes abnormally, the cushion is crooked, the body sways, and one constantly deviates from one's position, then all purposes will be destroyed. The faults of the throat and other parts of the body are said to be countless. Here, if the eyes are crooked, or the mudra (手印), implements are wrong, then one will be tormented by sorrow and suffering, and various faults should be carefully observed. The backrest, umbrella, and cushions, if these three are small and narrow, it is a fault, and one will suffer unpleasant words from friends, lose glory, and even die. These faults are great faults, and the wise should carefully observe them and avoid them. Benefits: The first thing a mantra practitioner should do is to make images, etc. If one can draw a Buddha image, one will quickly obtain great accomplishments. Thus it is said. In short, it is said in the Guhyasamaja Tantra: The image should be drawn by someone who is tamed, proficient in all crafts, knows the rituals without error, possesses all the marks and signs, and has a beautiful appearance. 1-312 When drawing a peaceful image, it should be in a peaceful state; when drawing a wrathful image, it should be in a wrathful and terrifying state; when drawing a heroic image, it should be in a heroic and arrogant state; when drawing a seductive image, it should have a smiling face. Mantra practitioners should draw images according to these characteristics. Thus it is said. The states of peace, love, and anger should be made vivid. Urged by the great Kunga Tashi (ཀུན་དགའ་བཀྲ་ཤིས།), who is proficient in wisdom, like the teacher of the gods and the second Vishvakarman (विश्वकर्मन्), Padma Karpo (པདྨ་དཀར་པོ།) diligently wrote this. With this merit, may I accomplish the body of the Tathagata, and may I become the guide to lead beings to the pure land of their choice! These characteristics of Buddha images, as stated in the Sutras and Tantras, were easily compiled at the request of the great Kunga Tashi (ཀུན་དགའ་བཀྲ་ཤིས།), rich in the wisdom of the Dharma King Jampa (ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱལ་པོ་བྱང་པ།), by the Shakya monk Padma Karpo (པདྨ་དཀར་པོ།).
