Explanation of Vajrayana Vows on Food - Nectar Ocean Continuous Vows Explanation of Vajrayana Vows on Food - Nectar Ocean Namo Guru Buddha Dhvaja ye! (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning: Homage to the Guru Buddha Flag!) Here, for the Vajra holders, I will briefly explain the classification of food vows that are closely needed, divided into two parts: continuous and special. First, it is about the method of accomplishing nectar pills, the method of how to partake of them, and the benefits arising from partaking. First, regarding the method of accomplishing nectar pills: The scripture says: 'Na (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning: Na) and Gaha (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning: Ga Ha) are the first, the Shwa (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning: Shwa) at the end and the Shwa (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning: Shwa) at the beginning, for the Vajra accomplishment of Heruka (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning: Heruka), likewise partake of the five nectars.' The Samputa Tantra says: 'With the wisdom hook, well distinguish, with the mind, summon all.' The Handprint Scripture says: 'Akshobhya is impure water, Ratnasambhava is said to be blood, Amitabha is said to be semen, Amoghasiddhi is great flesh, Vairochana is said to be marrow, these are the five supreme nectars.' Regarding the substances of the five nectars: The Root Tantra says: 'First Vairochana, then Vajramātā, and finally Hum (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum), this is the mantra for blessing food and drink.' The Samputa Tantra says: 'Ha (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning: Ha) takes away color, Hos (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning: Hos) destroys odor, Hrih (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning: Hrih) destroys diligence, recite in this order, reciting three times, make the three families of deities rejoice.' The above is the common method of blessing the torma. The scripture says: 'Take from the center of the torma, then taste the nectar.' The above is the method of tasting the nectar, detailed in the twelfth chapter of the Handprint Scripture, as for how to take it, it should be understood during the oral instructions. Second, regarding the method of partaking of the nectar pills: it can be partaken at the beginning or end of each gathering, or once each gathering, monthly, or annually. If this cannot be done, at least after six months, or at the latest on the first or fifteenth of the middle spring month (February) each year. As the Great Commentary on the Kalachakra says: 'The nectar pills of Vairochana etc., the size of mustard seeds, are taken daily for the purpose of guarding the vows.' Third, regarding the benefits of partaking of the nectar pills: they will be blessed by the Vajrayoginis and transformed into the essence of life and body. The scripture says: 'One will not be overwhelmed by old age and disease, and will always be protected.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

etc. Furthermore, by relying on the yoga of Akshobhya (mi bskyod, 不動明王), all diseases are completely eliminated.' Thus it is said. The ultimate benefit is, as stated in the Guhyasamaja (gsang 'dus, 密集金刚): 'Through the supreme flesh offering samaya (sha chen dam tshig, 肉供誓言), the supreme three vajras (rdo rje gsum, 三金刚) will be accomplished.' Thus it is said. These are also achieved by knowing the suchness (de kho na nyid, 真如) itself; otherwise, it is not so for other individuals. As stated in the Gongpa Lungten (dgongs pa lung ston, 意旨显说): 'Without knowing the Guhyasamaja (gsang ba 'dus pa, 秘密集会), practicing hidden asceticism, is like dogs, pigs, and foxes, who only display their behavior.' Thus it is said. What is that suchness (de kho na nyid, 真如) itself? By purifying the objects to be purified, symbolized by the five meats and five elixirs, through the five families that purify, knowing that the five wisdoms arise as the result of purification, and in order to transform the five afflictions into the five wisdoms, one relies on them without discriminating between pure and impure. As stated in the Gandavyuha Sutra (gdan bzhi, 四座续): 'Arranging the great hook, is to invoke the wisdom deity. The immovable vajra hook, is the precious hook of the place. The royal hook accomplishes the purpose. The moving hook is Amitabha ( 'od dpag med, 无量光). On the five hooks and so forth, all of that should be combined.' Thus it is said. Why are the five meats called hooks? The venerable Tsemoshap (rtse mo zhabs, 顶髻足尊) said: 'Because they cause all siddhis (dngos grub, 成就) to be drawn, they are hooks.' The Name and Meaning of the Special Samaya Tsokhor (tshogs 'khor, 荟供) Secondly, the name and meaning of the special samaya tsokhor (tshogs 'khor, 荟供), and how it should be done. Firstly, from the perspective of the individual, if both heroes (dpa' bo, 勇父) and heroines (dpa' mo, 勇母) gather, it is a tsokhor (tshogs 'khor, 荟供) wheel. If only heroines gather, it is a hero's feast. If only heroes gather, it is a heroine's feast. As Dombhibapa (ḍombi bapa) said: 'Heroines without heroes, and heroes without heroines, should not turn the tsokhor (tshogs 'khor, 荟供) wheel.' Thus it is said. Differentiating by time, when related to the time of empowerment (dbang bskur, 灌顶) and consecration (rab gnas, 开光), it is called a 'tsa ru's feast' or a 'joyful feast.' From the perspective of yoga, if many different kinds of deity yoga are practiced, it is called 'gathering of friends.' As stated in the Samputatilaka (mnyam sbyor, 合修续): 'When all the deities gather, when all the holy beings gather, the holy tsokhor (tshogs 'khor, 荟供) wheel, is the gathering of all friends. By the common language of all the Buddhas, it is thus named the gathering of friends.' Thus it is said. From the perspective of purpose, in order to avert epidemics and famine, etc., people equal in number to the deities gather, seated according to the arrangement of the mandala deities, and all practice the yoga of one mandala deity, and then offer the tsok (tshogs, 荟供) offerings. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
