The four are due to the control of the outer circumference of the heart chakra. These two (channels) each have one, so the four are due to the control of the inner heart chakra. These four are one day. Thus, there are twenty-one thousand six hundred. How does it transform into the path? The fifth general topic is, how does it transform into the path? First, merely holding the breath grasps the consciousness, because that is the way it is. Likewise, by counting, it transforms into recitation and eliminates obscurations. By grasping the mind, it also generates various samadhis. Furthermore, when the four breaths become clear, the four activities are accomplished. Ultimately, the karmic breath ceases, and the wisdom breath manifests, and it will explain 'no mind, no person,' and so on. As it is said, when the meaning is well explained and put into practice, although the perfectly enlightened Buddha taught the inconceivable yoga of breath, it is summarized into twenty-one thousand six hundred instructions. These instructions are summarized into one hundred groups of nine hundred. These are summarized into two hundred and twenty-five. These are summarized into ten. These are summarized into four, namely, rising, entering, abiding, and all combined. This explanation of breath, called 'The Lamp That Dispels Darkness,' was written by the yogi Sakyapa Shakya's novice Ngawang Kunga Sonam, who was influenced by three meaningful connections: Jetsun Jampel Yang's emanation, Jetsun Dampa Wangpo; the prince, the hidden yogi, the great bodhisattva Ngakchang Drakpa Lodro; and the master of all lineages and mandalas, inseparable from the Sixth Vajrasattva, Jetsun Muspa Chenpo Sangye Gyaltsen, for the benefit of himself and others, at the great Sakya Dharma College in Tibet's Vajrasana. May this bring great benefit to those who practice breath yoga! Sarva Mangalam (सर्व मङ्गलम्,Sarva Mangalam,All auspiciousness)! This was done by Guru according to the wishes of Khenchen Apel Rinpoche. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
