Collected Teachings of Ngawang Kunga Sonam ANK132: Explanation of Wind, Lamp to Dispel Darkness Explanation of Wind, Lamp to Dispel Darkness Explanation of Wind, Lamp to Dispel Darkness. Mangalam! Namo Guru Buddha Dhvaja (藏文:གུ་རུ་བུདྡྷ་དྷྭ་ཛ་,梵文天城体:गुरु बुद्ध ध्वज,梵文罗马拟音:Guru Buddha Dhvaja,汉语字面意思: गुरु 佛 旗). Here, regarding the blessing, there are two aspects: wind and tummo (inner heat). Firstly, although there are many ways of visualization, this Yoga Lord mainly practices wind yoga because it is the initial stage of guiding the integration of prana, tummo, and warmth. The reasons for this will be explained in detail by the Guru. So it is said. To understand these, generally, the classification of wind can be understood in five ways: what is the nature of wind, the divisions of wind, the functions of wind, the manner in which wind moves, and how it is transformed into the path. Firstly, the nature of wind belongs to the great elements and is an internal element, not an external one. It is the root of all various functions. As the scripture says: 'Wind is said to be the protector, and हा (藏文:ཧ་,梵文天城体:ह,梵文罗马拟音:ha,汉语字面意思: हा) is said to be all-pervading.' Furthermore, it is also the support for the manifestation of consciousness. Secondly, there are three divisions of wind: divisions based on the nature of wind, divisions based on the manner of movement, and divisions based on function. The first division has six types: earth, water, fire, wind, space, and the wind of consciousness. As the scripture says: 'The Great Powerful One and water, fire and wind, the wheel of existence is used by the mind.' And 'Vairochana and other Buddhas.' The second division, based on the manner of movement, has two types: the wind of mind, whose nature is without abiding and without movement; and the wind of karma, whose nature is rising, abiding, and ceasing. As the scripture says: 'Always flowing westward, pervading all sentient beings.' The third division, based on function, has five root winds and five branch winds, making a total of ten. These are: life-sustaining wind, downward-clearing wind, upward-moving wind, all-pervading wind, sustaining wind, dragon wind, turtle wind, binding wind, generous god wind, and victorious wind. As the scripture says: 'The upper gate has three unions and is completely surrounded by the nine gates.' This is its meaning. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It should be known how these winds are related to each other. The functions of these winds. Third, regarding the functions of these winds, there are general and individual functions. 13-609 Among them, the general function is to serve as the basis for consciousness, as it is said: 'The letter 'Ha' possesses six vowels and is known as 'consciousness'.' In other tantras, it is said: 'This is the great wind element, the vehicle of the three consciousnesses.' Furthermore, it performs all actions such as generating and increasing the body. As it says: 'In all forms of 'Ha', it unites equally with all Buddhas.' Therefore, first, at the time of the body's birth, consciousness rides on the wind and enters the mother's womb. Relying on the dwelling of the wind, consciousness faints. It abides in the nature of the wisdom wind. Starting from the life wind, the ten winds are gradually generated, causing the body to grow. Similarly, the movement of the wind prevents the body from decaying. Through the means of rising and entering, it generates various mental discriminations. Also, if used as a path, it performs the actions of yoga. At the time of death, the winds gradually cease, leading to death. Therefore, it is said: 'The nature of happiness and suffering is the place of co-emergent realization.' Second, the life wind resides in the heart, in the water element, and performs actions such as keeping the body and mind inseparable and clinging to self. 13-610 The upward-moving wind resides in the throat, in the fire element, and performs actions such as speaking and laughing. The downward-clearing wind resides in the anus and urethra, in the wind element, and performs actions such as expelling downward waste and restraining. The equalizing wind resides in the navel, in the earth element, and performs actions such as digesting food and separating essence from waste. The pervasive wind resides in all parts of the body, in the space element, and performs actions such as lifting. The limb winds are moving, extremely moving, manifestly moving, exceedingly moving, and exceedingly truly moving, residing respectively in the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and body, and through their respective channels, perform actions such as perceiving the three types of forms, superior, medium, and inferior. The manner of the wind's movement. Fourth, regarding the manner of the wind's movement, there are six aspects: What is the movement of the wind? Which wind is it? In what manner does it move? From which place and channel does it move? How many in number are moving? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
