Thinking that he might be completely abandoned, he said many things. The two were deluded by Indra, and so the two carpenters sawed him with a saw. Seeing a great amount of blood flowing from the navel, the great wise one fell to the ground. The gods in the sky also wept and shed tears. Seeing this, most of the people also felt pain and confusion. Indra also saw that the great crowd of people was so tormented by the suffering of the Bodhisattva, and thought, it is not good to inflict such intense pain on the body of such a great being! Now I must find a way to save his life. Then, the Bodhisattva was cut by two carpenters with a sharp saw, and he felt intense pain, but with steadfast strength he generated compassion, thinking: I have understood the faults of samsara, and with steadfast diligence, even cutting the body like this produces such pain, what more can be said about the suffering of most sentient beings who fall into hell? So, in his heart, he made a vow like putting on armor for the sake of all sentient beings, and as soon as he vowed to eliminate the suffering of all sentient beings, the feeling of the Bodhisattva's body being cut immediately disappeared. Then, the Bodhisattva thought: Why has the feeling of my body being cut disappeared? Has the saw been taken away? So he looked at the saw, and after seeing it, he was very displeased and began to tremble. Indra knew his thoughts and said: Like a weak patient, why is the king trembling? Aren't you famous everywhere for your generosity, you shouldn't regret it, are you lying? The Bodhisattva said: Brahmin, my trembling and regret are not because of this, but because this saw has already deeply cut into half of my body, but it has not yet been cut through, and I am worried that my generosity will not be complete, and the hopes of the beggars will not be fully satisfied. I am not trembling because I do not want the saw to cut violently. Hearing this, Indra was very surprised and could not say a word. The two people who were deluded by Indra...

As soon as the sharp knife cut off the lower part of the Bodhisattva's body, it was placed on the ground and began to tremble. The Bodhisattva, disregarding the pain of his body being cut, hurriedly said to the two men: 'Connect my body with the body of the Brahmin!' The two men did as he said. As soon as they were connected, it was restored, without scars and with the same color. The Bodhisattva, in order to be happy, stood up from his seat, walked, sat down, and stood up again. In this way, the Bodhisattva, seeing that the beggar's wish had been fulfilled, was very happy in his heart, feeling that his hard work had yielded results and that his wish had been completely fulfilled. He thought: 'I have given my body to this Brahmin and completely saved him from the painful fear of death. With this root of virtue, may I attain unsurpassed Bodhi and liberate this Brahmin from the suffering of Samsara, and place him in the blissful Nirvana!' After saying this, he was tormented by severe pain, and with his mind wishing for Bodhi, he closed his eyes and fell into a coma. Then, Indra immediately nourished the Bodhisattva's body with medicines that increased strength and life. At that time, the land of the great thousand worlds shook in six ways, and a great sound was emitted. Terrible clouds, meteors, and disoriented directions appeared, and the drums of the gods were also sounded, and the whole world became dark. The gods in the sky made noisy sounds, scattered flowers and clothes, and played heavenly music. All the people of Jambudvipa were bewildered for a moment. The hundreds of thousands of beings in that city, seeing the Bodhisattva's body split in two, cried out in anguish: 'Alas! It is so painful to kill a god!' Some rolled around, some wailed, and so on. Then, Indra, the lord of the gods, together with four sons of the gods, hid the appearance of the Brahmin and revealed his own form, saying to the Bodhisattva: 'Great King, I am Indra, the lord of the gods, not a Brahmin. Great King, well done! You are diligent and energetic, not attached to your own body, for all sentient beings.'

It is good to give love and be happy. Even if destroyed by intense suffering, it is good not to turn away from giving one's own body out of compassion. Great king, I ask you, what purpose do you seek with such difficult diligence? The Bodhisattva said: Kauśika (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), I will attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment through this giving and liberate sentient beings from samsara. Indra said: Having completely given up your body, has your mind changed and become regretful? The Bodhisattva said: I have no regrets. Indra said: How can I know? The Bodhisattva said: Let this half of my body that has been cut remain as it is. Then Indra restored the half of the body to its original state, and the Bodhisattva, with a mind of love for all sentient beings, spoke in verse: If you desire to attain enlightenment, because of compassion you give up your body, without stinginess or discouragement, and now you have no regrets. If there is not even a mind of regret, by this true word and good deed, Indra, today may my body, just as before, have all its senses restored to completeness! As soon as he said this, the Bodhisattva's body returned to its former state. The gods in the sky and the great assembly of people saw this, and with astonishment they shouted and were filled with joyful sounds. Pages 201 to 300.
