Preliminary Mirror of Clear Calculation. Preliminary Mirror of Clear Calculation. This concludes the work called Preliminary Mirror of Clear Calculation. Om Svasti. (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思) The wisdom of all the Buddhas is embodied in the youthful form of the prince. To Jamyang, the lion of speech, I prostrate with utmost respect. For those with clear minds who wish to engage in calculation, as a seed to stimulate their curiosity, I will write a preliminary guide to calculation, like a clear mirror. This concerns what is to be calculated, the calculator, and the method of calculation. First, there are two types: calculation based on the nature of reality and calculation based on the illusion of ignorance. The first is the abiding reality, emptiness, the nature of all phenomena, free from the web of elaboration. Understanding this transcends calculation. The second is the mind's own appearance, the interdependent nature of phenomena, where various appearances of existence arise as phenomena, enabling benefit, harm, acceptance, and rejection. This is what is to be calculated, symbolized by three turtles. The abiding turtle is the realm of Dharma, without limbs, transcending calculation. When this is realized as it is, it is self-aware and unmoving. The turtle of formation is so-called because the four elements form in sequence from space. It shows the various lords of the sky, appearing as the arrangement of sentient beings' karma. Then there is the turtle of existence, the creator of various forms. From the great golden turtle, the eight great gods of the trigrams and so on, the realms of existence are gradually liberated, and the environment and beings, directions and times, acceptance and rejection arise. Third, the rules of existence, the methods of calculation for acceptance and rejection without confusion, the root of what makes the world appear, to show the supreme, on the mountain of Five Peaks in China, from the burl of the Trisai tree, through various methods of vehicles, one who contemplates for the benefit of beings, incarnated as Prince Manjushri. Just like the turtle of existence, symbolized by the turtle of emanation, he speaks the door of calculation to the five retinues of gods, nagas, asuras, the eight classes, and humans. Knowing good and bad, knowing the times, although everything is clear, yet due to necessity, when it is again hidden as treasure, at the urging of the lord of Grudzin, the great teacher of Oddiyana, transforming into the four-faced Brahma, the goddess Namgyal, the naga Jokpo, and so on.
