A Concise Explanation of the Practice of Offering Lamps to Manjushri: Nectar for the Ears. A Concise Explanation of the Practice of Offering Lamps to Manjushri: Nectar for the Ears. A Concise Explanation of the Practice of Offering Lamps to Manjushri: Nectar for the Ears. Herein. Namo Guru Manjushriye. Here, I will briefly describe the practice of how to perform the Manjushri Lamp Offering. It consists of two parts: preliminary and main practice. First, on the last day of the seven, five, or three-day practice and offering to the venerable Manjushri, the Lama or disciplinarian should generally explain the benefits and auspiciousness of this offering, and specifically instruct on the actions of the three doors (body, speech, and mind) during the morning offering. That is, listen carefully from the Ocean of Assembled Wisdom and Liberation: We are born in the degenerate age, and what those who seek the path should especially strive for is the state of omniscience. The cause for attaining that is solely the two accumulations. Such accumulations also depend on merit, so merit is very important. As it says in the Extensive Play Sutra: "Merit ripens into happiness, abandoning all suffering. The thoughts of a person with merit are also accomplished. Having conquered the demons, one quickly attains enlightenment, obtaining the coolness of peaceful Nirvana." Thus, from the ultimate state of Buddhahood to even the slightest worldly happiness and pleasure, everything depends on merit to be accomplished. Therefore, accumulating merit is crucial, and this should be explained with quotations from the Sutras and Tantras. If desired, it can also be embellished with stories such as that of Prince Sonam Tobgye. Now, although there are many ways to accumulate merit, the most supreme is offering. The benefits of making offerings are immeasurable. As it says in the Sutra: "Even offering just one flower, or painting a Buddha's image on a wall, if offered with a moving body and a devoted mind, one will gradually see billions of Buddhas." Also, if one throws just one flower into the sky with devotion to the Buddha, one will not find the limit of having obtained Indra or a universal monarch in the cycles of existence for as many eons as one cannot see the beginning of one's past. Also, the ordinar

Furthermore, it is said in the scriptures: By hearing, seeing, and making offerings to those Buddhas, immeasurable accumulations of merit will increase. When all the sufferings of samsara's afflictions are abandoned, in this conditioned existence, the intermediate state will not be exhausted. It is also said: Even if a pile of dry grass is as high as a mountain, a spark as small as a mustard seed can burn it up. Similarly, even if one makes a small offering to the Sugata, it can burn up all afflictions and become the cause of nirvana. Such numerous scriptures illustrate the principle that the field of merit is increasingly superior from dull individuals, sharp individuals, those abiding in the result, to Bodhisattvas and Buddhas. The qualities of the Buddha are inconceivable, as explained in detail or in brief in scriptures such as the Sutra of Throwing Stones and the Inconceivable Secret Sutra. As stated in the scriptures, the roots of virtue directed towards the Buddha are not wasted. Moreover, among these scriptures, it is specifically mentioned that reciting and prostrating to the names of Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges is less beneficial than reciting "Manjushri" once, as spoken by the immaculate words of the Buddha. The reason for this is that "Manjushri" refers to the wisdom of the non-dual mind of all Buddhas. Since the minds of all Buddhas of the three times have transformed into wisdom Bodhisattvas, therefore, the name "Manjushri Wisdom Bodhisattva" is widely known. He is also the throat of the Sugata, the conch of Dharma or inexhaustible speech, the essence of the wheel of adornment, and therefore is also called the Lord of Speech. He is also the Vajra nature of the body of all Buddhas, and therefore is called the Supreme Body Manjushri Vajra. Thus, the ultimate body of wisdom, inseparable from the body, speech, and mind of all guides of the three times, is indeed the Manjushri Yang of true meaning. He manifests in an image endowed with signs and examples, and as a youthful prince, guides beings on the path to liberation with immeasurable means as long as existence lasts, becoming a supreme guide. As it is praised: "Although he is the father of all Buddhas, he plays the role of a youthful prince." He is the uncommon Yidam practiced by all the holy beings who have attained accomplishments in both India and Tibet.
