Chapter Seven: Reflecting on the Truth to be Realized Chapter Seven: Reflecting on the Truth to be Realized As it is said that such practice leads to non-abiding Nirvana, non-abiding Nirvana cannot be attained without realizing the truth. Therefore, after the chapter on practice, the chapter on truth should be explained. Third, there are three things to be contemplated: contemplating the truth to be realized, contemplating the six accomplished consciousnesses, and contemplating the cause of obtaining all qualities, which is to fully mature one's own continuum. First, the nature of reality is to establish the two selflessnesses. There are three stages of how to realize it. First, the nature of reality to be known by each individual is free from the four extremes of existence and non-existence, oneness and otherness. What is it? The ultimate reality is not existent like the imputed and dependent natures, nor is it non-existent in the nature of the perfectly established. The so-called all phenomena are nothing other than this dependent phenomenon of interdependent origination within the profound. The clinging to the appearance of the two, grasper and grasped, as real is the imputed. Although childish beings cling to it as real as it appears, the two phenomena of grasper and grasped are not inherently real. The perfectly established is the reality or the ultimate truth. Therefore, in conventional terms, emptiness is established as a definitive negation by what is empty of what. Therefore, it exists. The imputed and the dependent are not the same as the perfectly established. Therefore, they are not the same or undifferentiated, nor are they different, so they are not other. As it is said in the Sutra Unraveling the Intent: "The aggregates and the ultimate nature are of a nature that is free from one and other." As it is said, the imputed is the opposite of reality and does not exist in reality, and the dependent is the basis of the imputed and appears as two. The perfectly established is empty of the two opposites, so they are not one, they are phenomena and the nature of phenomena. If you ask, are they other? The answer is no. In the nature of the dependent, the absence of the imputed of the two, grasper and grasped, is the perfectly established. There is no other perfectly established than that.

Because there is nothing to do, the nature of other-powered (phenomena) as the object of the Dharma is the perfected reality. If these two were to become different, then the other-powered would have to be not empty of the two, the grasper and the grasped, but this is not reasonable. For example, it should be known that just as conditioned phenomena and impermanence, or fire and heat, are not different. The ultimate perfected reality has no birth or destruction or cessation from the beginning, because whatever whose own nature is not born from causes and conditions, how can there be destruction? Even at the time of samsara and nirvana, there is no difference between before and after, so it will never decrease, there is no increase, it just abides as it is, for example, just as there is no increase or decrease when there are clouds in the sky and when there are no clouds, because the defilements decrease and the aspects of purification increase, so suchness will not decrease or increase, or, because its own nature is naturally pure, so there is no new purification, for example, just as the sky and good gold and water and crystal are naturally pure. Although impurities cannot be removed from the point of view of nature, just as the sky has sudden clouds, gold has rust, water has turbidity, and crystal has no impurities, so the perfected reality also becomes completely pure of impurities by the power of removing the two sudden obscurations, and that is the nature of the ultimate. Thus, the non-duality of the ultimate is shown by five meanings: neither existent nor non-existent, neither one nor different, without birth or death, without increase or decrease, neither pure nor impure. According to Madhyamaka, all phenomena that appear dependent on dependent origination are not non-existent in conventional terms, but they are not existent in ultimate terms, nor are they both existent and non-existent, because non-existence in ultimate terms is the nature of the phenomena that exist in conventional terms, so these two are only distinctions in name, but in reality they are not established as two different things, just like the heat of fire and the sweetness of brown sugar. Then, is the third aggregate, which is neither existent in conventional terms nor non-existent in ultimate terms, the suchness? No, because there is no valid cognition to establish the third aggregate that is neither the object of the Dharma and the nature of the Dharma nor emptiness, and such a third aggregate cannot be the nature or Dharma nature of conventional phenomena. Therefore, existence and non-
