Sixth Chapter: Explanation of Practice Sixth Chapter: Explanation of Practice Having generated the mind of enlightenment in this way, one must practice as promised. Therefore, the fourth is the explanation of practice. There are three points: generally showing the practice that perfects both aims; specifically explaining how to accomplish the benefit of others; and summarizing the meaning by showing the greatness of practice. First, because it possesses the three great qualities of great abode, great activity, and great result, it is considered that the practice of the princes is particularly excellent. Among them, the great abode is that the practice arises from first generating the supreme mind of enlightenment, saying, "I shall liberate all sentient beings from unsurpassed enlightenment." Therefore, the abode of practice is the mind of enlightenment, so it is called the great abode. This is always a great commitment, because it is the beginning of doing the work of all sentient beings, so it is good in the beginning. The great activity is that from the stage of aspiration to the tenth stage, the immeasurable joy is created for the sake of perfecting the Dharma of the Buddha and maturing sentient beings, which is great patience because there is no weariness, so it is good in the middle. After obtaining the fruit of unsurpassed great enlightenment, my benefit is completely fulfilled, and as long as samsara exists, the great meaning of all sentient beings is truly accomplished, and the actions are ultimately good. These three great qualities are not possessed by hearers and solitary realizers. Second, specifically explaining how to accomplish the benefit of others, there are six points: how to engage in the benefit of others, the classification of doing the benefit of others, that doing the benefit of others becomes supreme, particularly excellent, continuous, and not weary of wrong practice. First, Bodhisattvas have obtained the mind of equality between themselves and other sentient beings, or the mind that cherishes others more than themselves, that is, cherishing others more than themselves. Therefore, for those who consider that accomplishing the abandonment of afflictions and suffering, and accomplishing the happiness of the world and beyond for the sake of others is more important or more excellent than for themselves, there is no difference between their own benefit and the benefit of others, they are equal. Thus it is said. Furthermore, in the stage of aspiration, through compassion and the aspiration of separate observation, self and others are equal.

Through the practice of exchange, one attains equanimity between oneself and all sentient beings, and upon attaining the first bhumi, one realizes the meaning of the pervasiveness of the dharmadhatu, thereby attaining the equality of self and others. Although I have realized this, the suffering of sentient beings who have not realized this is intense and unbearable, and they wander for a long time in delusion. Therefore, the mind that others are more miserable than oneself will manifest. Therefore, just as those who possess great compassion, for the sake of benefiting other sentient beings, relinquish their kingdom and body, causing themselves to experience unbearable suffering, so too, one should not inflict extremely mercilessly upon enemies and executioners, etc., who are worldly people, by means of the painful actions of cutting off their bodies, etc. Secondly, how should one benefit others? Among sentient beings, there are three types of dispositions: the inferior or small disposition of the Hearers, the intermediate disposition of the Solitary Realizers, and the disposition of the Bodhisattvas who abide in the supreme Dharma-nature. By means of the power of universally displaying miracles, knowing their minds, and by means of the power of teaching miracles, one skillfully teaches the antidote of ugliness, etc., to those who are attached. For those non-Buddhists, etc., who do not believe in what has been taught, one causes them to have faith by displaying miraculous powers, thereby introducing them to the true Dharma and making them happy. For ordinary sentient beings, one causes them to take refuge in the Three Jewels and to uphold the five precepts. For those of the three vehicles, one eliminates their doubts about the meaning of their respective teachings, and causes them to generate firm understanding of the meaning of their respective teachings. For those whose roots of virtue have not matured, one causes them to practice the six perfections, thereby causing the roots of virtue of the six perfections to fully mature. Likewise, for those who desire meditation but do not have the key instructions, one proclaims the transmission or bestows the oral instructions. For those who have obtained the oral instructions of meditation, one causes them to attain single-pointed concentration in samadhi. For those who do not possess superior insight, one generates wisdom, causing them to generate the wisdom to attain the fruits of their respective vehicles, or one liberates their wisdom from the obscurations of doubt, etc. Peace
