From the Completion Stage of the Profound Dharma, the Heart-Essence of the Vidyadharas: A Written Record of the Key Points for the Instructions on Primordial Purity. From the Completion Stage of the Profound Dharma, the Heart-Essence of the Vidyadharas: A Written Record of the Key Points for the Instructions on Primordial Purity. Homage to the feet of the glorious and precious Lama, whose kindness is unparalleled. Here, if there is a fortunate one who seeks the oral instructions of the Profound Dharma, the Heart-Essence of the Vidyadharas, they should be instructed as follows: Oh! For the benefit of all sentient beings, may I attain the state of perfect Buddhahood. For that purpose, with the thought of receiving and practicing the profound instructions, generate the supreme Bodhicitta clearly and distinctly, and listen respectfully. This Dharma that is to be listened to has three parts: preliminaries, main practice, and subsequent activities. The preliminaries also have two parts: common preliminaries and special preliminaries. First, among the five common preliminaries, the first is the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment: This precious human body with leisure and endowment, so difficult to find, Even when examining all causes, conditions, examples, and numbers, It is definitely difficult to obtain; all Buddhas rely on this to cross over. Therefore, having contemplated the difficulty of finding leisure and endowment, Generate joy as if a poor person found treasure, And practice the sacred Dharma diligently day and night. One should contemplate the meaning of these words. If I were born in the three lower realms, I would be preoccupied with suffering and would not have the leisure of body. If I were born as a mute, I would not have the ability to communicate the meaning of words and would not have the leisure of speech. And if I were born as a long-lived god, in a borderland, in a dark age devoid of Buddhas, or as a holder of wrong views, I would not have the leisure of mind. Therefore, since I am not born in any of those eight unfavorable conditions, I should think that I have obtained the eight freedoms. That leisure is also endowed with the ten qualities of endowment: I am born among humans, and also born in the central country, with all five senses complete, with a mind inclined towards virtue, and with faith in the teachings, not having turned away from the ultimate result; these are the five endowments related to oneself. The Buddha has appeared in the world, has taught the Dharma, his teachings remain without declining, and there are also followers who follow him, and he also compassionately takes others under his care; these are the five endowments related to others. Thus, the ten endowments are also well complete. In this way, this basis of having all eighteen leisures and endowments is extremely difficult to find.
