Practice and cultivate diligently, to accumulate merit for oneself and others. 42 In short, maintain connections with retinue and disciples, regarding the causes and results of virtue, one should clearly set goals and strive to practice according to the Dharma as much as possible. 43 Those who possess qualities are respected by all; those without qualities are the basis for contempt. The wealthy are praised by all; those who receive kindness are not treated the same. 44 Monkeys live by the fruits of trees, yet they harm the trees themselves. Ungrateful and wicked people harm and injure those who benefit them. 45 If one holds a prominent position through both worldly and Dharma means, and lives with good conduct, one will benefit oneself and others. 46 Those who are arrogant and act wickedly are extremely despicable. If one falls from a high cliff, what hope is there for survival? 47 Wherever the leader's thoughts and actions are good, the retinue who rely on him will also live happily with good conduct. 48 If the lord is malicious and acts wickedly, the retinue who rely on him, like tasting honey from a poisonous flower, will become wicked in every way. 49 Therefore, even the slightest evil deed should be avoided like poisonous food; and good deeds should be practiced diligently like a life-saving medicine. 50 Beings have various forms and shapes, but their minds are difficult to understand because they are hidden. It is like the fruit of a mango. 51 When first trying to get acquainted, if the other person deceives with opportunistic and deceitful behavior, one should not become close to them, for wicked people are unstable and fickle like clouds. 52 However, just as the sky is boundless, so is the nature of sentient beings. Likewise, one should not be too attached to either good or bad. 53 One should rely on and associate with friends who can help one avoid faults and increase qualities, because they are virtuous friends. 54 Towards noble and virtuous people, as well as those who have fallen into wrong paths, one should treat them appropriately with the intention of benefiting and bringing happiness. 55 Those who, through deceitful and cunning behavior, cause others to fall from virtuous conduct, can they turn back from that behavior? If not, it is best to stay far away from them. 56 Those who, like thorns, prick you when you get close to them, unrestrained child

Those who abandon evil deeds obtain happiness of body and mind. 57 Wealth and glory are impermanent, even if you become poor and destitute, do not abandon noble character, shining like pure gold is the best. 58 Initially very close, later becoming the cause of quarrels and hatred. Therefore, maintaining a middle ground is the most profound behavior. 59 When wealthy, everyone is like a relative; when declining, relatives often abandon you. Therefore, rejoicing in and emulating the good deeds you have done is most important. 60 Most of those who are close and respectful to you are for their own benefit, do not be complacent about this. Because it may bring harm, do not rely on friends in adversity. 61 Most people only parrot others, following others, so words of praise and criticism are difficult to relate to the truth. Therefore, examining and discerning is the behavior of the wise. 62 Abandoning long-term benefits for temporary pleasure is the behavior of the wicked. Being diligent in good heart and deeds is the good person. 63 Therefore, with a pure good heart, carefully measure, conform to good deeds, and strive to do what will bring both temporary benefit and lasting happiness. 64 The good obtained through sin is like food mixed with poison, seeing that it will bring unbearable pain, who would accept it? 65 Even if he bows to you like a former enemy, do not confide in him. Like poison coated with honey, you never know when it will turn into a disaster. 66 Do not be too harsh, even to enemies. Do not let your own faults be seized by others. At any time, it is difficult to understand the boundaries of benefit and harm, maintain calmness, gentleness, tolerance, and depth. 67 In whatever you do, carefully consider it through consultation. Even if it is not successful, the responsibility you bear will be less. 68 For relatives who are of bad character and behave rudely, do not greet them with a smiling face, nor please them with sweet words, but skillfully use methods to maintain and manage them. 69 For things done well, rejoice and praise; for mistakes made, rebuke and correct, also according to the specific situation, timely and appropriately, do not let the other party feel stung. 70 People of bad behavior, even if they accidentally do a good deed, do not overpraise them, because you cannot predict what evil deeds they will do in the future. 71 Good people, even if they occasionally make mistakes, do not over-punish them, because you may regret it later.
