The Activities and Rebirths of Previous Lives The Activities and Rebirths of Previous Lives Therefore, our glorious and venerable Lama, who follows the conduct of all the Tathagatas, this great being who dwells perfectly in the state of complete and perfect Buddhahood, it is inconceivable to fully express the collection of qualities of his liberation. Even the Bodhisattvas of the tenth bhumi, whose habitual tendencies are extremely subtle, are not within his realm, so how could it be within the realm of the minds of us ordinary beings? Therefore, I would not dare to speak of even a fraction of the deeds of this holy being. Why is that? This great being, from beginningless time, has attained manifest enlightenment through the liberation of self-awareness wisdom in the expanse of the unchanging fundamental realm. In the utterly pure realm of the luminosity of the Dharma nature, without beginning or end, in a state where body and wisdom are inseparable, he dwells with the intention of all the Buddhas of the three times as one taste. Moreover, the aspect of self-nature purity is the wisdom Dharmakaya that pacifies elaboration; and when that is distinguished by the ultimate purity of sudden purity, the wisdom Dharmakaya in which all dharmas appear as a pure expanse, and in the wheel of the mandala that is inseparable from its essence, the Sambhogakaya appears as its own manifestation; and the qualities it possesses, the aspect of love and power of wisdom that is able to show both the other-appearing Sambhogakaya and Nirmanakaya to be tamed, is the Nirmanakaya. Thus, since it is only the realm of the Tathagatas and does not appear to other beings to be tamed, the three Kayas of the Buddha's self-manifestation, gathered by one's own continuum, remain in a state of inseparable essence without moving. However, the two Kayas of self-manifestation, Sambhogakaya and Nirmanakaya, and the purity of the mind-streams of beings to be tamed, when the causes and conditions of past aspirations meet, then the other-appearing Kayas of beings to be tamed, the Sambhogakaya that appears to the pure Bodhisattvas of the tenth bhumi, and the inconceivable Nirmanakaya that appears to the various beings to be tamed, pure and impure, appear manifestly in whatever way is appropriate to tame them, in accordance with the individual capacities of the beings to be tamed, as the basis of the path, the path, and the result.

The immeasurable activities of subduing disciples: Just as the image of the lord of gods appears on a beryl ground, or just as the image of the moon appears in countless water vessels, the activities appear without interruption from beginningless time. The Guhyagarbha Tantra of Glorious Vajrasattva states, "Through the connection of great compassion, all six realms and times appear." The Uttaratantra also states, "Just as on a pure beryl ground, the image of the body of the lord of gods appears, similarly, on the pure ground of sentient beings' minds, the image of the body of the Sage appears." It also says, "For those who are pure, near, and far, in the mandala of the world's victors, like the moon's reflection in water and sky, seeing this is of two kinds." In short, the root tantra of the Magical Net states, "In the ten directions and four times, in immeasurable places, the meanings of taming are shown separately. All higher and lower vehicles, and immeasurable inversions, all the great assemblies of peaceful and wrathful deities, are made to appear universally in accordance with each." The Avatamsaka Sutra also states, "O son of noble family, the emanations of the Tathagata are immeasurable. Whomever is to be tamed, he performs the deed with that form, color, and name." Thus, the Buddha tames with the body of a Buddha, the Bodhisattva tames with the body of a Bodhisattva, and likewise, the Shravaka, Pratyekabuddha, Brahma, Indra, Chakravartin, Shramana, Brahmin, householder, birds, beasts, and so on, even boats, bridges, and medicines, whatever can tame, he shows that form of stable and moving, and performs the benefit of limitless beings to be tamed. In this realm, briefly describing the intermediate activities, as a slight difference that appears commonly to some of the beings to be tamed. The prophecy from the self-revealed treasure of Sha'uk states, "The one who recites this is the translator Vairochana. In countless past kalpas, he has generated the supreme Bodhicitta. Although he has become a Buddha in the essence of the three bodies, through the compassionate heart of skillful means, he appears in many emanations." Thus, the venerable and holy one.
