Forty-two years old. Forty-two years old. At the age of forty-two, even for the New Year celebrations of the twelfth Rabjung (1728), he did not ascend the throne but stayed in retreat at the Kunzang Phodrang chamber, observing five (places) of seclusion. He generously gave offerings to the New Year's donors of Trewo Rinpoche and the hundred sho of gold that he himself had offered both before and after his lifetime, and with great compassion, he accepted the offerings for the deceased merchant Tashi. To offer contributions to the construction of sacred objects, both old and new, from Tagtse (present-day Dagze District, Lhasa), he only briefly met with the steward Peljor through the doorway. Then, starting from the twentieth day of the second Hor month, from within his retreat, he bestowed upon Khedrup Chokyong Gyaltsen and myself the exceedingly ripened guidance of the Great Compassionate One, the Embodiment of All Sugatas, which is the essence of all profound points of the unsurpassed tantras, and took us under his care. At this time, Chöje Drepung Lingpa was invited from Gongkar Dorje Dhen, and we listened to the empowerment and transmission of Sangye Nyamsjor Rikdu (Buddha Union of Families) of the Ancient Translation School. The scribe, Dponmo Che Samdrub from E, and others also arrived. Some of the major tantras that had been written before were again (written in) gold, and the construction project of building offering tables equivalent to the number of the Hundred Thousand Tantras was also started. Around the tenth of the third month, he felt slightly unwell, and around the middle of the following month, he felt a heaviness in his body. The attendants also discussed that it seemed to be due to the strain of teaching the profound guidance. I myself also felt uneasy, and I asked if it would be possible to request a special healing ritual. He replied that he didn't know if that was the reason, but it would be good to do a ritual, and I received permission. I performed five hundred Ganachakra fire pujas of the Dakinis, and the abbot and students of Jagopa also accumulated extensive confessions related to the hundred offerings. In addition, to examine the intentions of the supreme master and because it was a year of misfortune, extensive activities were performed, such as reciting scriptures like the extensive Prajnaparamita Sutra, making tormas, performing subjugation rituals, and offering universal tea to the monasteries of both internal and external sangha. From Lhasa, Miwang Chenpo sent gifts such as a cushion with a Vajra pattern on fine cloth, for the longevity ceremony.
