The time of the Seventh Dharma Heir. The time of the Seventh Dharma Heir. Arya Ananda. Thus, the teachings of the Great and Small Vehicles, well-collected by the Buddhas and Shravakas, were propagated in the following manner: The ordained ones then said, "When the Teacher was alive, we were distracted and careless, and did not attain special positions. Now, if we do not receive instructions from Arya Ananda in time, and do not diligently practice the teachings with care, we will wander aimlessly." Thinking this, they devoted themselves to virtuous practices. As a result, many attained the four fruits every day. It is said that in this way, for about forty years, the world remained in virtue. At that time, Ajatashatru praised Arya Ananda as a Shravaka like the Buddha. After praising him in this way, he made offerings of necessities to five thousand Arhats for five years. When the Brahmin Bharadvaja, who was very skilled in illusion mantras, displayed miracles to his retinue, Ananda subdued him with his miraculous powers. Within seven days, Bharadvaja, his five hundred Brahmin followers, and tens of thousands of people were established in the truth. Then, at another time, the householder Shanavasa held a great festival for Ananda and his Sangha for five years. The householder had faith and ordained in the presence of the Arya, attaining liberation from both the Vinaya-holder and the Arhat. Finally, Ananda placed about ten thousand monks in the position of Arhat and entrusted the teachings to Shanavasa. For the sake of the Licchavis of Vaishali and Ajatashatru both obtaining relics, he stayed in the middle of the Ganges River between their two lands. Furthermore, for the sake of taming those who were to be tamed by the Vinaya, he manifested an island in the middle of the river. In just one moment, five hundred sages and five hundred noonday practitioners were fully ordained and placed in the position of Arhat before passing into Nirvana. His body was cremated by a self-generated fire. Like a precious garbu, it was divided into two parts, which were carried by the waves to the two banks. The northern part was taken by the renunciates, and the southern part was taken by Ajatashatru, and stupas were built in their respective lands. Thus, Ananda.

He propagated the teachings for forty years. The year after that, Ajatashatru also passed away and was briefly born in hell. Then, after death, he was reborn as a god and listened to the Dharma from the Venerable Kātyāyana, and it is said that he attained the fruit of stream-entry.

It is said that he stayed there for the summer retreat, and by teaching the instructions, a thousand Arhats appeared. Once, the merchants Panata and Bharta offered the "Dancer Hero Temple" on the mountain called "Head" to Nesba, and after serving him with all kinds of offerings, he taught the Dharma, and many laypeople and renunciates saw the truth. Then, at another time, while he was teaching the Dharma to tens of thousands of people, the evil demon first rained rice in the center of the city, on the second day clothes, on the third day silver, on the fourth day gold, and on the fifth day a rain of the seven precious jewels. On the sixth day, the sinner himself transformed into the attire of a divine dancer. The sons and daughters transformed into the forms of divine song and dance. About thirty-six men and women appeared, and with various dance arrangements and magical performances, and various beautiful sounds of songs and musical instruments, they captivated the minds of all beings, so that not even one person listened to the Dharma. Immediately, the Noble One, through his miraculous power, blessed the sinner and his entourage, making them old and ugly, with tattered clothes, a rotting corpse tied to their heads, a dead dog hanging around their necks, emitting a foul odor, and causing vomiting just by seeing them. This sight caused all beings to feel disgusted and to generate even more faith. Many people who had been encouraged to do good deeds gathered from the four directions. He stayed there for six days, and on the night of the sixth day, he taught the Dharma. On the seventh day, eighteen hundred million people saw the truth. After that, he stayed in the Dancer Hero Temple for as long as he lived. There, there was a cave that was eighteen cubits long, twelve cubits wide, and six cubits high. Through Nesba's instructions, when a fully ordained monk attained Arhatship, he threw a four-finger-long piece of wood into the cave and piled it up. In this way, the cave was filled with wood without any gaps, and Nesba also completely passed into Nirvana. His remains were also cremated with those pieces of wood, and it is said that they turned into relics, which were taken away by the gods. It is said that this was prophesied by the Teacher himself to be a nameless Buddha.
