Mind Training Teachings Collection LJ22 The Mind Training of the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra 1-207 The Mind Training of the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra The Mind Training of the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra. Guru Maitri Namo. The Lama said: All dharmas are one's own mind; one must take it to heart and practice it. This Kagyu lineage is the path of the Lama; one should know that the essence of all offerings of the three times is the emanation of that Lama, and by training the mind, one offers homage and outer, inner, and secret offerings to the Lama, and prays. Entrusting the Lama with the reins, one must practice from impermanence to the nature of reality. Moreover, one should establish the view of perfect purity, that all dharmas of samsara and nirvana are primordially without arising or ceasing, and free from all extremes of elaboration, like the sky. Practice the skill of non-cessation. Meditate on the three: focusing on sentient beings, focusing on dharmas alone, and without focus. Meditate on the three samenesses. This cultivates the three qualities of impartiality, respect, and absence of good or bad. Furthermore, one should train in the great mind, the immovable mind, and the vajra-like mind. First, what is the Great Vehicle mind? Like a младшая сестра (Russian, literally: younger sister) longing for all the deeds of старший брат (Russian, literally: older brother), may I, together with all the older brothers, turn the wheel of Dharma and perform deeds for the benefit of others! By generating such a thought, one becomes equal to all. Shakyamuni Buddha also made the great vow: May I subdue all beings who are evil-doers, of evil nature, and have not been tamed by all the Buddhas! And for this, he practiced immeasurable austerities. The Great Compassion of the Three Family Lords (Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani) transformed into the nature of the compassion of all the Buddhas of the three times, pervading the three thousand worlds. In the realms of samsara, he manifested immeasurable waves of compassion. When Vajrapani Bodhisattva took birth as the mighty one, quickly attaining Buddhahood is not the path of the Great Vehicle. A Bodhisattva should always remain in samsara, enduring immeasurable hardships to relieve the suffering of sentient beings, pleasing the Buddhas with offerings, perfecting the dharmas of the Buddhas, holding the secrets of all the Buddhas of the three times, subduing demons, guarding against obstacles, and performing great Bodhisattva deeds. The noble Manjushri, from the time of his first arising of the mind, practiced the conduct of a Bodhisattva. 1-208 being. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I vow to establish all beings in the realm of Buddhahood. I vow to guide sentient beings to enlightenment, and until all sentient beings in the ten directions attain Buddhahood, I vow not to attain Buddhahood myself. For the karmic connections of each sentient being, I will ensure they extend to the endless future. For the sake of each sentient being, I will not shrink from the suffering of Avici Hell and other realms. I vow to perform the deeds of a Buddha while in the form of a Bodhisattva. If I attain Buddhahood before fulfilling this vow, then I shall commit the five heinous crimes. It would be as if I had deceived all the Buddhas. Thus, I make this aspiration. Among all these, Samantabhadra (ཀུན་ཏུ་བཟང་པོ།, ), the All-Good Bodhisattva, is the greatest. At the time of first generating the aspiration for enlightenment, he follows the aspiration of all Buddhas of the past, present, and future. When practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva, he practices all the austerities practiced by the Bodhisattvas of the three times. He desires to establish all sentient beings, without exception, who pervade the limits of space, in the state of Buddhahood. While in the form of a Bodhisattva, he accomplishes the enlightened activities of the Buddhas of the three times. In each Buddha-field, he performs inconceivable deeds. For the sake of each sentient being, he experiences immeasurable eons of suffering in Avici Hell and other realms. He undertakes the deeds of the Buddhas of the three times. For those who have not generated the mind of enlightenment in the three times, I will cause them to generate it. I will practice the austerities that others cannot practice. With great compassion and skillful means, I generate the aspiration to establish those abandoned sentient beings in the state of Buddhahood. Before each Buddha, I emanate bodies as numerous as the dust particles of the world, offering outer, inner, and secret offerings. Each body purifies immeasurable Buddha-fields. Similarly, I make aspirations to tame those who are difficult to mature and those whose conduct is difficult to subdue. I undertake the deeds of all the Buddhas. In each moment, I perfectly accomplish the deeds of all the Buddhas of the three times. If I attain Buddhahood without fully accomplishing this aspiration, then may I be considered to have deceived all the Buddhas of the three times. Thus, I make this aspiration. His aspiration is like the sky, beyond description. May we also generate the mind of enlightenment with the vastness of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Relying on the mind of enlightenment, may we first arise, abide in the middle, and finally attain Buddhahood without weariness. This connects the beginning of suffering and turns towards the beginning of happiness. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
