I offer to the Protector Maitreya with the Dharma. Whatever feelings of happiness or suffering arise, I gladly accept them as aids to enlightenment. Whatever merit I accumulate over many kalpas, may it not be lost to the Dharma of cowardly Hearers. I offer to the Protector Maitreya with this Dharma. Even if something undesirable occurs, may I never lose even a little of the armor of patience. Especially towards those who have protected me with kindness, even if they practice wrongly, I cherish them with a smiling face. I offer to the Protector Maitreya with this Dharma. Even if those who hate me accumulate sins, may I never lose even a moment of bad thoughts. Even if all the demons, spirits, and gods of existence rise up as enemies, may I never seek protection by clinging to my own desires. I offer to the Protector Maitreya with this Dharma. Even if struck by the disease of certain death, may I never place my trust in non-Dharma. Even if my wealth, accustomed to miserliness, is small, may I never make a living from wrong Dharma. I offer to the Protector Maitreya with this Dharma. Even if surrounded by bad friends, may I never give up any of the antidotes. In short, whether going, staying, or doing anything, may I never do anything without examining it. I offer to the Protector Maitreya with this Dharma. Although it is so, I have never had even a speck of true realization of these Dharmas. This is the main thing for achieving enlightenment. I offer to the Protector Maitreya with this Dharma. With this supreme offering of practice, for the sake of purifying the mind of the yogi, I request the host of Maitreya to accept this offering. Having accepted it, I request you to mature this mind. Thus, the offering, and the five offering goddesses in space, and other pleasing offerings such as sound and light, became immeasurable in form. At that time, those holy beings who trained their minds in the Great Vehicle recognized this Dharma as a wonderful place, and many engaged in hardships, study, and practice in this direction. Among them, the lord of the one hundred and eight great places, the jewel on the crown of the fifty-two Panditas, the hero who possessed the dominion of the sixty-two Dharma Kings, the abbot of countless Vinaya holders, the spiritual friend of immeasurable Sutra holders, the embodiment of limitless Abhidharma holders, the lama of the ocean of Vidyadharas, in short, the holy being who was free from all rivals, the protector of beings, Atisha, was given great compassion. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He accepted these teachings, and said: 'Having abandoned one's own interests for the sake of others, wholeheartedly serving others, that is my Lama.' And so on, that is how it is. This holy person imparted these secret instructions to those holy persons who sought the truth in the lands of Tibet and China. The lineage comes from Maitreya The Yogi of Maitreya, and then to Jowo Je (ཇོ་བོ་རྗེ). Now begins the Dharma of Subduing Afflictions from the Stages of Mind Training of a Bodhisattva. Homage to the Yogi of Maitreya! Enduring hardship in the realm of samsara, destroying the selfish desires of all beings, not being driven by fear, paying homage to the heroes! In order to uphold the path of the Sugatas, like a great king, thinking only of benefiting others, one must exchange oneself with others. To me, who am rigid, to the hero who possesses the essence, with the words of the Sugatas as witness, I request these instructions with pleading words: Ema! Compassionate hero! I have abandoned the places of attachment, practiced austerities on the path of fear, conquered all directions, and arrived here. Now, in order to endure the beings who are tormented by illness and have gone astray, I ask you to teach a Dharma that cannot bear to wallow in the impure mire of samsara. Vajra Essence) replied: 'For those who have come through hardship, having abandoned fear and fatigue, there is the order of mind-training bodhisattvas. Turn the overturned vessel over by hearing, repair the vessel with a hole in the bottom by thinking, cleanse the soiled vessel by meditating. Get rid of the vessel's defects and enjoy this essence!' Hey! From beginningless time, because I have not yet tamed my own mind, from the house of evil demons, I have been employing the messengers of afflictive karma. Because you have not thought of your parents, all sentient beings are suffering, but you are still comfortable and happy, not putting on the armor of antidotes! That is a great offense. From now on, gain the ability to reverse the situation. If you do not subdue the evil spirit within you, you will strike at the lives of your parents! You will surely destroy your own happiness! You will sink into the depths of samsara! If you do not bind your own evil mind, everything will become an enemy, and when the poisoned arrow pierces your heart, you will surely be destroyed!' If you do not pull out the thieving dog of selfishness, even if you tightly put on the armor of antidotes, when internal destruction occurs, medicine will turn into poison!' If you do not cut off the life force of the five poisons, even if you expand the scope of laziness, when the short life is carried away by the wind, you will surely regret it from the bottom of your heart! That is a great lesson.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
