It is said that the power and blessings (of the Dharma) will gradually diminish. This sutra was specifically spoken for the degenerate beings of the end times, when the five hundred years of the degenerate age arrive, when sentient beings are obscured by various karmic obscurations, afflicted by various sufferings and torments, and become impoverished. Therefore, considering that blessings and power will greatly increase in this day and age, this profound Dharma is certainly beneficial to all high and low people today and is considered particularly excellent. Such a ritual with reliable sources, if its benefits are mentioned slightly, is divided into two types: common benefits and special benefits. In general, the benefits of offering to the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha) themselves and their supports with faith are immeasurable. The Tenth Wheel Chapter of the Infinite Meaning Sutra says: "All happiness and joy in the three realms arise from offering to the Three Jewels. Therefore, those who desire happiness and joy should diligently offer to the Three Jewels." The sutra also says that making immeasurable offerings to the Sangha is not as meritorious as throwing a single flower at the Buddha. The sutra says: "It is more meritorious to gaze for a moment with a joyful mind at the body of the Tathagata than to make offerings to hundreds of millions of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas." Also, a Brahmin praised the Tathagata with a single verse on the road, and therefore the gates of the lower realms were closed for twenty great kalpas. It is more meritorious to listen, think, and practice the Holy Dharma of the Great Vehicle for a moment, or even just to copy scriptures, than to offer to the Buddha with vast offerings for immeasurable kalpas. There is no difference in the magnitude of benefits between offering to the Buddha who is present and offering to the Buddha who has passed into Nirvana or is in another Buddha-field. Moreover, in such a degenerate age when the teachings are about to decline, even if one upholds for only one day a single precept praised by the Buddhas, such as generosity and discipline, its benefits are greater than the previous merits. In the Holy Buddha Power Manifestation Sutra, it says: For those who personally offer flowers, incense, scents, garlands, and unguents to the Tathagata...

Needless to say, what need is there to offer with clothes and ornaments? Sons of the gods, for any sentient being, even if a hundred thousand years or billions of kalpas have passed since the Buddha, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, passed into nirvana, if they say the name three times and prostrate to the Buddha, and then scatter flowers into the sky, all of these will bring an end to suffering. Let alone scattering flowers into the sky. Those who follow the Tathagata with faith, some of whom, for the sake of offering to the Tathagata, hold just one of the Tathagata's miraculous teachings, or one day and one night, or a moment, strive to remember and offer to the Tathagata, they will end suffering and gradually manifest complete enlightenment in unsurpassed, perfect, and complete awakening. Thus it is said. In the Tingdzin Gyalpo (Samadhiraja Sutra), it says: Whenever the sacred Dharma is utterly destroyed, and the Sugata's teachings cease, practicing one precept day and night, that merit is far superior. Thus it is said. The main part of the offering ritual is the seven-branch offering, and even just the prostration branch has infinite benefits. Compared to that, offering actual and imagined offerings accumulates more merit. Compared to that, confessing sins has greater power of merit. Therefore, the latter are said to have greater benefits in sequence. If one performs a complete and qualified medicine offering with a pure intention, it will purify the karmic obscurations of countless kalpas. Accumulating roots of virtue and merit from the formation to the destruction of this great kalpa is equal. In particular, by holding and prostrating to the name of the Tathagata 'Name Well-Proclaimed and Widely Known', one is freed from all diseases, evil spirits, and curses. One is freed from being deaf, blind, mad, and so on. Even if one abandons the sacred Dharma and commits heavy sins such as the five heinous crimes and goes to hell, by remembering the name, one is liberated and will not be born there again in the future. The poor become rich. One is saved from the dangers of prison, beatings, wild animals, fights, and floods. By prostrating to the Sugata Precious Moon, the mind of enlightenment and virtuous Dharma increase, and all good intentions are accomplished. One is freed from the suffering of birth. The door of female birth is cut off. One is freed from the harm of death and sorrow.
