Diligence, and diligence in the activities of crossing over and gathering, is the supreme and unsurpassed offering. No matter how much one does of the previous offerings, it cannot match even a fraction of it. Just as one makes offerings to the Buddha, so too should one make offerings to the Dharma and the Sangha in the same way. These ten offerings also require six superior intentions as their cause: the superior intention of the unsurpassed field of merit, the superior intention of unsurpassed benefit, the superior intention of being the best of all sentient beings, whether footless or two-legged, the superior intention of being as rare as the udumbara flower, the unique intention of appearing alone in one of the three thousand worlds, and the superior intention of realizing all the perfect meanings of the world and beyond. Offering to the Three Jewels with these intentions, even a small offering will produce immeasurable results, what need is there to mention the accomplishment of many? Even if the followers of Shakyamuni Buddha have not mastered the Tripitaka, since the precious teachings of the scriptures are present everywhere, there is no need to write them down, as it is impossible not to see or understand a part of them. When Shakyamuni Buddha was actually present, there was no difference between offering to the Buddha and offering to an image, as stated in the Sutra of the Heap of Flowers: My retinue of four, offering to the Victorious One in person, and now offering to me, in the future with faith, offering to the images, there is not the slightest difference. Therefore, offering to an image is the same as offering to the actual Buddha. Not only that, it should also be generally understood that no matter what kind of painted or sculpted image of Shakyamuni Buddha, it will bring merit and benefit, as stated by the noble Nagarjuna: How the body of the Sugata, even if made of wood, no matter how it is made, the wise should offer. Therefore, for those who are endowed with merit, it has long been widely known, and even now in places like Lhasa (ལྷ་སྡེན།, Lhasa), the tradition of accumulating merit is still flourishing widely. This was also briefly written by the virtuous friend Lodrö Thaye (བློ་གྲོས་མཐའ་ཡས།), who follows the teacher Shakyamuni Buddha and merely holds the appearance of a monk, in order to encourage the members of his own monastery to do good. May virtue and auspiciousness increase! A Catalog of Seeing the Image of Shakyamuni Buddha as Meaningful
