Table of Contents of Seeing the Meaningful Image of Thubwang Table of Contents of Seeing the Meaningful Image of Thubwang Here ends the Table of Contents of Seeing the Meaningful Image of Thubwang. Namo Guru Shakya Munaye. Homage to the Guru Shakyamuni! The supreme guide of the world, including the gods, our teacher, the unparalleled Shakya King, regarding his immeasurable compassion and kindness, I will briefly narrate the history of this "Seeing the Meaningful" image. In central Magadha, at Vajrasana, when the noble Nagarjuna was constructing countless supports, the Teacher, at the Vulture Peak Mountain, where he taught the intermediate turning of the Dharma wheel, the Prajnaparamita, Nagarjuna himself carved with his own hands from the stone of Vulture Peak Mountain, a hundred or so images of Thubwang, and from the black stone of the Cool Grove, he constructed many principal protectors, such as those with four arms and six arms, and consecrated them. Later, during the time of the great Kashmiri Pandit Shakya Shri, the barbarian armies destroyed all the monasteries of India. When the teachings were on the verge of complete destruction, a faithful householder came into possession of this image, and because his family's wealth and power increased, he secretly kept it. It is said that in the degenerate age, eighteen periods were prophesied, and now, both internally and externally, many signs indicate that we have certainly reached the end of the tenth period. The Philing people openly and secretly harmed and tormented Tibet. In order to avert the arrival of border wars, the Ganden Phodrang government, as the owner of the snowy land's teachings, sent many ministers, both internal and external, and soldiers to Phagri Dzong (Phagri County), one of the hundred and eighteen great dzongs bordering India, where they stayed in military camps for several years. At that time, the great Tsenyer of Tse, Gungthangpa, was brought and presented with it by a merchant who had gone to central India. A great feast was given for the ransom and reward of the Thubwang image. It was invited to Lhasa. Since Lhasa had many special objects of veneration, including the Jowo Shakyamuni, it was thought that it would be very meaningful to propagate the Dharma in Kham. Therefore, a merchant from Derge was specially sent here. At the age of eighty-six, on the first day of the white side of the Dog Year (Tibetan calendar) of the Dawa month (May), on an auspicious day with perfect circumstances, I came to this practice place, accumulating immeasurable merit as if I had directly met the unparalleled Thubwang.

I obtained no small amount of joy. As a sign that there was no confusion about this, from the lotus seat of the statue down to the white, rough stone staff, no craftsman could do anything with it, and the metal parts would break if heated. It is said that when the Teacher turned the wheel of Dharma at Vulture Peak Mountain, there were countless bodhisattvas, shravakas, noble ones, and ordinary people, as well as inconceivable non-humans such as gods, nagas, and yakshas gathered there. It is said that at that time, apart from the blessings of the Buddha himself, it was actually a common manifestation. The land of India is very vast, all of it is a vast plain, and only a few hills are given great names. Therefore, Vulture Peak Mountain is also in the center of an unbearably large plain, like a protruding mound, with many rough stones like vultures landing on it, hence the name. This is stated in the travelogues of Chak Lotsawa and others, and Zhamar Konchok Yenlak also wrote about it. Nowadays, most of the merchants who go to Mon (Bhutan) reach there, and what they say they have seen is consistent with this. I myself have also developed faith in the signs of blessing. Prior to this, when Khenpo Lama Tashi Ozer went to Lhasa, someone gave him a Bodhi tree leaf obtained from a reliable source, which seemed to be a symbol of opening auspiciousness. The throne of this precious statue is a lion throne, the backrest has six decorations, and there is also an umbrella. The offering table in front is a mandala, with the layout of Mount Meru and the four continents, all made of gold and silver, and decorated with various jewels that I possessed, such as diamonds, Indranila, Padma Raga, Marakata, pearls, turquoise, etc., providing a very rich service. It is enshrined as an inner offering in the practice site of Tsadra Rinchen Drak (Chari Monastery), the excellent place of merit and intention, one of the twenty-five great sites of Do Kham (Do Kham), in the general and specific essence of the Do Me (Amdo) region. In the past, when I was around forty years old, Kunkhyen Lama Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo of Dzongsar Monastery said that you should build a complete biography of Shakyamuni Buddha's vast deeds, as well as its Thangka, and scriptures written in gold and silver.
