The Sixteenth Volume of the Instructions Treasury. The Guide to the Qualities of the Bhagavan Protector Amitayus, Enabling the Accomplishment of the Immortal Vajra Body. The Sixteenth Volume of the Instructions Treasury. The Guide to the Qualities of the Bhagavan Protector Amitayus, Enabling the Accomplishment of the Immortal Vajra Body. The Guide to the Qualities of the Bhagavan Protector Amitayus, Enabling the Accomplishment of the Immortal Vajra Body, is present here. A body adorned all over with precious dust, majestic like a mountain of padmaraga gems, possessing the radiance of a hundred thousand suns in an instant, I prostrate to the guide Amitabha. In the lotus-moon posture, holding a treasure vase filled with nectar in equipoise, displaying a peaceful face with a smile, adorned with marks and signs. Protector Amitabha, please protect me! The wisdom light of that protector causes the thousand petals of the glorious Mitra to fully bloom, the feast of nectar of the instructions, in a single lineage, by the learned and empowered Shri Putra. Then, the supreme nectar of his treasure vase, known by the name "as desired." The nectar honey stream of the well-transmitted lineage, by drinking it, I give birth to the nectar of the lineage. Thus it is said. Moreover, here, the Bhagavan Protector Amitayus, The guide to qualities, enabling the accomplishment of the immortal vajra body, has four meanings. First, the origin of this instruction's lineage: The lord of yoga, Mitra Joki, accomplished the five tutelary deities in the charnel ground of Sosa Island. Those deities appeared in person and spoke the order of their respective guides, saying, "For seven generations, we will bless only those fortunate individuals." Thus it was said. Then, the instruction was transmitted in a single lineage from the Bhagavan Protector Amitayus to Mitra Joki, who transmitted it to Pandit Shri Putra, who transmitted it to Drakpa Rinchen, who transmitted it to Buddha Shri. The origin of their lineage has been told. Second, the preliminaries are twofold: common preliminaries and special preliminaries. First, the common preliminaries are: the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment, impermanence of death, thinking about the meaning of karma and its results, and contemplating the faults of samsara, these four are the common preliminaries.

These are the preliminaries. Second, there are four special preliminaries. First, the instruction on taking refuge and generating bodhicitta, which makes whatever one does a path to liberation: In the sky above one's crown, visualize a vast and wide throne made of many jewels, on top of which, supported by peacocks, on a fully blooming lotus with a hundred thousand petals and a moon, one's root guru appears in the form of Amitabha. He abides in the attire of the Sambhogakaya, surrounded by the Kagyu lineage gurus. In front, there is an ocean of yidams; to the right, an ocean of buddhas; behind, an ocean of scriptures; to the left, an ocean of sangha; below, filled with dakinis and dharma protectors. All directions and intermediate directions are filled with all the buddhas and bodhisattvas like dense clouds. At the feet of the refuge, think that you and all limitless sentient beings are included. With faith, contemplate reciting the refuge prayer distinctly. Take refuge! Generate the supreme bodhicitta! Finally, visualize them dissolving into light and merging into oneself. The three doors of body, speech, and mind are left uncorrected, naturally free from thought, without grasping, clear and empty. Remaining in the state of Mahamudra is the actual taking of refuge. Second, the instruction on the fourfold union of the HRIH syllable for purifying obscurations: On the crown of one's head, the red HRIH syllable (ཧྲཱིཿ, Devanagari: ह्रीः, Romanized Sanskrit: hrīḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hrih) with a tsek and drag, descends like a stream of nectar-milk, white and flowing. All diseases, evil spirits, and obscurations within the body are driven out in the form of smoke, oil, and soot, exiting from the pores, orifices, and nail beds, sinking to the bottom of the nine levels of the earth. Visualize the entire body being filled with the nectar of wisdom, becoming white and radiant. This is the union for purifying sins. Second, the union for purifying diseases: For hot diseases, visualize nectar like snow water and camphor water, with a cooling nature, descending. For cold diseases, visualize nectar like hot spring water, with a hot essence, descending. For combined diseases, visualize nectar like melted butter, with a nourishing nature, descending, pacifying all diseases. Third, the union for purifying evil spirits: From the HRIH syllable (ཧྲཱིཿ, Devanagari: ह्रीः, Romanized Sanskrit: hrīḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hrih) appears a small Hayagriva form, complete with limbs and attributes, blazing with flames, and many Hayagrivas arise, filling the inside of the body, burning and destroying all evil spirits, from
