The Sixteenth Volume of the Instructions Treasury: The Oral Instructions of the Yakshini's Realization, a Precious Garland. The Sixteenth Volume of the Instructions Treasury. The Oral Instructions of the Yakshini's Realization, a Precious Garland. The Oral Instructions of the Yakshini's Realization, a Precious Garland. Homage to the Lamas! Within the Dharma Mudra, of the four self-blessing Dharmas, the first is taking dreams as the path. This has two parts: preparation and main practice. The first, preparation, is to generate faith and respect for the Lama and the Three Jewels, recite the Hundred Syllable Mantra, and confess transgressions of vows. The main practice has four parts: first, seizing dreams; second, purification; third, training in illusion and re-arising; fourth, meditating on suchness. In seizing dreams, first generate strong faith and aspiration in your mind. Make the bedding soft and the pillow high. Lie down with the right side on the ground, the left hand extended on the thigh, and the right hand touching the cheek. Visualize a four-petaled red lotus at the throat. In its center, visualize a white A(ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,IAST:a,literal meaning: A). As evening ripens, entrust awareness to a white drop and fall asleep. Then, at dawn, hold the mind on the A(ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,IAST:a,literal meaning: A). If you don't recognize the dream as a dream, wake up. Generate a strong aspiration, thinking, "Now I didn't recognize the dream as a dream." During the day, recognize all appearances and existence as dreamlike. Think, "There is no difference from last night's dream." During the daytime, repeatedly generate the aspiration, "Tonight I will recognize the dream as a dream." By doing this day and night, you will seize dreams. The signs of seizing dreams are the arising of unpleasant dreams, such as great floods, being unable to escape cliffs, being chased by dogs, light emanating from the body, and so on. Due to these causes, some awareness that it is a dream will arise. When this arises, during the dream state, generate strong aspiration or conviction that the statement "all dharmas are like dreams" is true. The next morning, remember last night's dream. Generate a strong aspiration, thinking, "What difference is there between last night's dream and this present awareness?"

Oh! The dream is caught. Then, having caught it, from the evening time itself, one should strongly generate the intention to "know that this is a dream." Then, Practicing the dream: One should strongly generate the intention that "because it is a dream, anything can be done." In the dream state, jump into water, jump into fire, climb cliffs, view the abode of the Thirty-Three (trāyastriṃśa), view the entire land of India, step on the sun and moon with one's feet, behold the face of the yidam deity and listen to the Dharma, view the pure land of the Tathagata (tathāgata) and listen to the Dharma there, and do everything that one's mind thinks of. Like this, learning through habit is practicing the dream. Then, to know the dream as illusion and abandon fear: When practicing, having done the act of jumping into water, if one still feels fear and the apprehension of being ashamed, one should eliminate fear by contemplating, "Because it is a dream, it is illusion, where would there be anything to fear?" This is to know the dream as illusion. Then, contemplating reality as it is: Because it is a dream, there is nothing to practice, one should know that it is a delusion of one's own mind, this is contemplating reality as it is. The method of contemplating it is to contemplate what one has contemplated before, and if not, one should focus awareness on the bindu at one's forehead or the secret place, and merely by having faith in bliss and emptiness (sukhaśūnyatā), great bliss will arise. This is contemplating reality as it is in the dream. This is carrying over into the dream, which is learning in this life. The instruction for transforming deep sleep into luminosity (prabhāsvara) is: First, going to sleep. That is, first, make the body tired for about three days, and during that time, stay awake at night, doing whatever virtuous practice one can. Then, one can also massage the body, and also nourish the elements, and lie down with the right side of the body facing the ground. The time is the time of sleep. The place is the heart center, contemplate the four Anuttaras on the four petals of the heart chakra. Thinking of Hūṃ (hūṃ) in the center, in ordinary times, focus the mind on the A (a) in front. Then, when the gross thoughts of the aggregates, elements, and sense bases have subsided, when sleep is about to come, hold the mind on Nu, which is called mind-appearance. Then, when the subtle thoughts subside, focus on Ta, and the mind-appearance increases.
