To rest without thinking of anything, this is the instruction like a temple wall. To rest by relaxing the mind is to keep the body and speech still, as before, without altering the mind, relaxing in its natural state, without thinking of anything, and entering into samadhi without distraction. As it is said: If bound, it will run and go in all ten directions, if released, it will remain without moving, like that. I, friend, saw the drum, but it appeared to me upside down. Thus it is said. This is the instruction of resting the mind and abiding in self-liberation, like untying a drum. Like this, for all four instructions of cutting off thoughts, it is especially important to enter into samadhi without distraction. In the sutra it says: If the mind is distracted, one cannot even accomplish one's own benefit, what need is there to mention benefiting others? Undistracted samadhi is the path of all Buddhas of the three times. Thus it is said. Like this, by meditating with the three conditions of immovability, it is said that signs like smoke will appear even in one session. In that state, if one does not depart from the three conditions of immovability and possess them, and if no slight realization arises, then phenomena such as mirages will appear in sequence. As it is said: Completely abandon all thoughts, and examine it for one day and night. If you do not have faith in this, then at that time I have spoken falsely. Thus it is said. After that is the practice of daytime yoga: After completely seeing the signs of the night, in a secluded place with characteristics, sit on comfortable ground, in the morning and afternoon turn your back to the sun, do not look at yourself being here, nor look at that place, but look at the clear cloudless sky, or look at the space, with the three conditions of immovability, practice as before. Do not practice at noon, because it will harm the eyes. After that, let the mind abide in solitude. Second, the signs seen by practicing are, like this, by practicing the yoga of day and night, from the right Avadhuti, gradually collecting the earth, water, fire, wind, and space winds, there are five, and from the left gradually generating the space, wind, fire, water, and earth winds, there are five, thus the ten winds are naturally mastered, the external grasping of the objects of perception, and the internal grasping of the thoughts of the mind, whether subtle or coarse, cease, and at the time when non-conceptual samadhi arises.

The definite signs of night yoga are like smoke, like mirages, like fireflies, like lamplight, and like the cloudless sky. The definite signs of day yoga are like blazing fire, like the moon, like the sun, like the wheel of Rahula, and like lightning. Then, the green bindu and the great black bindu of the wisdom with signs will appear. By meditating in this way again and again, seeing various empty forms in the bindus is a branch of separate cutting. As it is said: "Having made the mind unwavering, one should meditate on smoke and so on." Thus it is said. Third, abandoning the obstacles of meditation, sinking and excitement: In the tantra it says: "Hunger, sleep, fatigue, power, enjoyment, attachment, wealth, praise, dharma, and lineage, all these should be known as faults and abandoned." Thus it is said, so one should abandon all causes of sinking and excitement and meditate. If sinking occurs, sit comfortably on a cushion, sit in the lotus position, place both hands on the knees, inhale air from the mouth, and hold it as much as possible. When it becomes unbearable, exhale slowly from the three places of the mouth and nose. Do this again and again, adjust the gaze, and meditate. If excitement occurs, instantly visualize oneself as the yidam deity, and from the seed syllable at the heart, radiate light that touches all container and contents, transforming them into light. The light gathers back, and oneself also transforms into light, gradually becoming smaller and smaller, gradually contracting and contemplating emptiness. Lower the gaze and meditate. By doing this again and again, sinking and excitement will be eliminated. Second, meditation is divided into two. The meaning of meditation is that the signs such as smoke appear steadily, and the mind does not wander elsewhere, but remains stable in one-pointedness. There are six methods: Wisdom is the appearance of the form of emptiness itself. Conception is the grasping of the object of emptiness. Analysis is the determination of its meaning. Joy is the attachment to the image of emptiness. Bliss is the mind united with the form of emptiness. One-pointedness is the appearance of various forms of emptiness itself, the mind does not waver or scatter, without conceptual thought.
