Even if the mind is too scattered towards external objects, making it difficult to grasp with mindfulness and awareness, do not become lazy. When there is a slight shift from that state, the movement of coarse conceptual thoughts subsides, and subtle movements are recognized. Eventually, a state of immovability arises, a true shamatha and vipassana that cannot be shaken by any thought, in accordance with the sequence. Next, the second is the introduction to vipassana: When abiding single-pointedly in samadhi, what is the state of my mind's abiding? In what manner does its color abide? In what manner does its shape abide? If I cannot directly see the state of abiding, I should observe the state of scattering. This thought itself is also a scattering. Therefore, in what color does this (mind) scatter? In what shape does it scatter? In what essence does it scatter? What kind of form is this? Sound? Smell? Taste? Touch? Dharma? One should examine what contradicts abiding. If that path is found, one should thoroughly search, both internally and externally: Where does this (mind) initially arise from? Where is the place where it abides in the middle? Where does it ultimately go? If it is difficult to see, one should offer a mandala to the lama and pray. If the nature of the mind is not recognized, one cannot be liberated from samsara. If one cannot be liberated from it, one cannot endure the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death. Therefore, I must recognize the nature of the mind! One should generate a strong determination from the depths of one's heart. At all times, one should strive to only gaze intently at one's own mind, and in this way, one will surely see (the nature of the mind). If one has not seen one's own mind, it cannot be introduced. For example, if one has not seen letters, how can one teach letters? If one has seen only a part, that part can be introduced. If, after looking, it seems not to appear, one should also look at the one who is looking. Just because it is not seen, it does not become non-existent, like a treasure beneath the earth. Therefore, not seeing it anywhere is the supreme seeing. Previously, you have been taking non-awareness as awareness, non-knowledge as knowledge, no-mind as mind, no-intellect as intellect, no-thought as thought, and then becoming distracted, do you understand? Son of noble family, your mind is like a rabbit's horn, without a basis, without inherent existence, without arising, without appearing, without going, without abiding, its own essence is unconditioned, therefore everything is empty.

Even the appearances before you will not change. Have you taken this meaning to heart? Therefore, rest in the state of no-mind! Rest in the state of no-thought! Furthermore, son of good family, if in your mind there are thoughts like "What is this?" or "What is that?", and awareness appears as mere flickering lights, and various thoughts arise, isn't that strange? Therefore, just rest naturally in whatever appears to you! Rest loosely! Rest nakedly! Son of good family, to consider appearance as a fault and emptiness as a virtue, or to consider emptiness as a fault and appearance as a virtue, is childish. Because appearance is emptiness, and emptiness is appearance, understand that appearance and emptiness are of one taste. In short, whatever arises for you, let it go without grasping. Whatever appears, let it dissolve without clinging to truth. Be liberated from everything! Let samsara and nirvana merge into one. Let awareness utterly vanish. Let coming and going be without trace. Let confusion and liberation merge into one, and in this state of non-grasping, maintain yourself continuously. Such a nature of mind is called "unfabricated ordinary awareness," it is called "the original face of one's own mind," it is called "the natural state of things," it is called "the abiding mode of the ultimate Dharmakaya." Isn't your mind right now clear, bright, and open? That is called the nature of self-arisen awareness. Isn't there a certainty that says, "This is it"? That is called the wisdom of insight. Isn't there a state of clarity and vividness? That is called the gateway to calm abiding samadhi. Therefore, samsara itself is nirvana. Sentient beings themselves are Buddhas. Confusion itself is self-liberation. Afflictions themselves are wisdom, and this is called "the introduction to the primordial Dharmakaya." Do you understand? Do you comprehend? Have you gained certainty? Have you merged into it? Always hold this correct definitive meaning in your heart, and accustom yourself to what is unfamiliar. Continuously maintain what cannot be maintained. Therefore, abandon attachment to this life. Cultivate impermanence in your mind. Constantly generate renunciation. Pray to your root guru. Do as your guru says. Always wander in solitary places. Urge yourself on with the whip of diligence. The primordial
