The first is: When the ground manifests as the ground appearance, delusion occurs through the three ignorances and the four conditions. From the self-arising: \"O friends, although the pure Buddhas do not have delusion, the way Vajrasattva is deluded from the establishment of the ground is: Delusion begins from what is called 'Vast Land'. Delusion begins from what is called 'Beautiful Place'. Delusion begins from the time of dusk. Delusion begins from the year of the Pig. Delusion begins from the day of the Snake. Delusion begins from the star Bird. The person named 'Old Woman with a Limp' is deluded. Delusion begins from the uncertain lineage. It is done by four friends. Then five wild men appear. Then one supporter appears. Then one thief woman appears. When all of these are gathered, one person appears. Then an immeasurable host of armies appears. All of these and so on are immeasurably deluded.\nBecause it arises from the ground of non-delusion, it clings to what is called 'Existence'. Inconceivable forms of sentient beings appear. The path of delusion and thoughts also arise as thoughts, just as the thought of how to think. Vajrasattva is awareness. Vast Land is the initial ground. Beautiful Place is the source of the spontaneous manifestation of the ground appearance. The time of dusk is the appearance of the ground of delusion because it appears as other than oneself due to self-ignorance. The year of the Pig is when ignorance is actually conceptualized. The day of the Snake is the part where the conceptual thought of grasping the coarse appearance of objects is clear. The star Bird is when attachment to objects arises as desire. The old woman is when the knowledge of ignorance arises as the grasping of delusion. Uncertain lineage is when the ground appearance appears anywhere, and both liberation and delusion are common ground, hence the delusion. The four friends are the four conditions. The five wild men are the five poisons. The one supporter is the conceptual mind. The one thief woman is anger. The person who gathers all of these is the appearance of delusion." } ] ============================================================

How is it accomplished? That mind is the grasper of deluded appearances. From that, many afflictions arise, which are the assembly of armies. Thus, that delusion initially arises from a groundless, primordially pure, neither existent nor non-existent "something," and therefore it is called "as if existent." Secondly, it is through stories that both delusion and liberation are symbolized. It is taught: Again, in the Rangshar, it says: "Listen, you who are pure in the expanse! The measure of the Buddhas' intention should be grasped by these. In the past, in a place called Vast Land, there was a teacher called Light-Radiating. He had two sons. It is said, 'Friends imprisoned in emptiness,' etc. Then five soldiers appeared and 'destroyed from the top of the stone fortress,' etc. The two sons were thrown into a pit, and 'an old hunchbacked woman closed the door,' etc. Then four people chased and caught them, and 'five people separated from their horses,' etc. The two sons escaped on their own and 'killed the prison guards,' etc. The two sons fled to a sunny place, collected taxes from the people, and twenty-one consorts consulted and fled to the temple of the god of bad thoughts. Five people put on five coats of mail and guarded the door, and 'no one could come,' etc. Then four mirrors looked at their faces, and 'they recognized themselves,' etc. Then they saw a house with eight doors, and 'they burst out laughing at themselves,' etc. Likewise, all the symbolic forms symbolize and connect to the meaning of wisdom." Thus it is. Among these, the teacher Light-Radiating is self-arisen wisdom. The two sons are the two wisdoms of primordially pure awareness and spontaneously present wisdom. Being imprisoned by friends means that in the appearance of spontaneous presence, wisdom and its children are confused, and bound in samsara by ignorance. The five destroying from the top of the stone fortress means that the five poisons cause awareness to move from its own place and enter into delusion. The two sons being locked in by the old woman means that awareness enters the pit of samsara, and is locked in by ignorance, not allowed to escape. The four catching and the five separating from their horses means that the four wisdoms purify the five afflictions' conceptual thoughts together with their winds. The four wisdoms are: the wisdom of liberating liberates afflictions, the wisdom of gathering gathers wisdom, the wisdom of distinguishing distinguishes afflictions and wisdom, the wisdom of acting
