The Tenth Vajra Place. Practice, Extensive Explanation of the King's Palace. The Tenth Vajra Place. Practice, Extensive Explanation of the King's Palace. Then, in the Bardo, how to establish the instruction of ascertaining self-appearance as wisdom light, there are two: the general establishment of Bardo and the extensive explanation of each self-nature. The first has three: classification, boundary, and appearance. There are four classifications, as stated in the 《Natural Liberation》: "There are four types of classification," namely: the Bardo of Self-Nature, the Bardo of Dying, the Bardo of Dharmata, and the Bardo of Existence. Regarding the boundary, the first Bardo of Self-Nature is from the initial emergence from the mother's womb until the final impact of the disease of death. The Bardo of Dying is from being struck by the disease of death until the cessation of the inner breath. The Bardo of Dharmata is from the cessation of breath, the instantaneous arising of clear light, until the dissolution of spontaneous appearances. The Bardo of Existence is from the dissolution of spontaneous appearances until the unimpeded wandering of the mind-made body, entering the mother's womb. After entering the womb, it is the next existence. There are four types of appearance, among which, the appearance of the Bardo abiding in self-nature also has two types: general indication and separate explanation. The first also has three: the general strength of the three realms, the difference in the types of situations, and the individual strength of the individuals. Regarding the general strength, due to the power of establishing individual habits on the Alaya consciousness, the root ignorance appears in the mind as the grasping and the grasped, the five external objects appear as the aspect of the objects, appear as the body, appear as the joy and suffering of the neutral state, appear as the five poisons of afflictions such as attachment, therefore, it appears as samsara from one place to another, so it is called the general appearance of the three realms. After that, the way of appearing in different types of situations cannot be described exhaustively, but if summarized, these six mostly gather from the aspects of similar karma in terms of objects, body, and suffering and happiness, so there are six types of beings. Due to their respective similar karma, from the situation and happiness of the gods, to humans and Asuras, etc. For all of these, there is no consistency in things, only water, gods also see nectar, etc., only clouds, there are also Paranirmita-vasavartins, etc. raining jewels and flowers, the thirty-three and the king.

The four great elements appear as rain of nectar, to humans as water, to animals as barely drinkable pus and blood, to pretas as rain of pus and blood, and to hell beings as rain of burning weapons. As the Two Truths states: 'Though the object is one, minds are different, therefore it is seen as unreal.' These phenomena appear different because there is no other real entity in the external world. And this is due to the different karmas of each being. As the Bodhicaryāvatāra states: 'Who made the iron burning ground? From where did these masses of fire come? The Buddha said that all of these are due to sinful minds.' Similarly, among these phenomena, the feelings of beings are also different. Some are happy, some are suffering, and some are in a neutral state. For example, even for one person, Devadatta, there are three different views: enemy, friend, and neutral. What is food for some appears as poison to others, and what is light for some appears as darkness to others, and so on. There are many internal inconsistencies. These are all caused by their own karma. As it is said in the Dharma category of the Noble Stack of Jewels Sutra: 'Karma creates various things, like a painter.' Specifically, in the bardo abiding in its own nature, the appearance of the five kayas naturally ceases because it is bound by the five skandhas; the appearance of light and color naturally ceases because it is bound by the elements and sense bases; and the appearance of wisdom and dharmata naturally ceases because it is bound by karma and kleshas. The appearance of the dying bardo is that the elements of the body are disturbed, so one experiences the suffering of the external body; the path of mental sensations is lost, so one experiences the suffering of the inner mind; the ocean of grasping and clinging collapses, so one experiences the fear of losing the connection between body and mind, and in reality, one is in a state of fear of death. The appearance of the dharmata bardo is that the basis of clinging to the skandhas is lost, so the appearance of kaya and wisdom naturally arises; the connection of karma and habitual patterns is severed, so one naturally abides in the samadhi of one's own nature; and the objects of the senses disappear, so one enjoys the clear light of pure self-appearance. The appearance of the becoming bardo is that the existence of the external body is a mental body, like a dream, without substance.
