To clearly illustrate this, combinations of two or three, etc., show different but related meanings. When many words are combined, they become a collection of words. For example, "all dharmas are naturally pure and luminous," etc., from this expanding sequence, the chapters, volumes, and sections of the Buddha's words and treatises are formed. The combination of sections forms the complete whole. When thus formed, the nature of how many or few are combined is that the individual letters remain separate and unmixed. It is like a rope in its natural state, where each fiber remains distinct; or like a bunch of peacock feathers, where each feather is distinct even when seen as a whole; or like a meadow, where each blade of grass is distinct even when seen as a single expanse. Therefore, from the moment all phenomena of samsara and nirvana are expressed and designated by collections of names, words, and letters, there is no connection between name and meaning, only individual letters. Even when letters are analyzed, they have no parts or characteristics; they naturally exist in the nature of space. From the appearance of arising, abiding, and ceasing, to their unceasing appearance of being nowhere and appearing everywhere, it should be understood that all dharmas are apparent but without inherent existence, like illusions, magic, cataracts, gandharva cities, and so forth.
