They reside on a golden ground. The seven golden mountains are arranged in a square: Yoke-Holder, Plow-Shaft-Holder, Sandalwood-Possessed, Beautiful-to-Behold, Horse-Ear, All-Bowing, and Circumference-Holder Mountains. The inner ones are half the height of the outer ones, and their width is equal to the height above the water. The surrounding mountains are made of iron, said to reach half the height of the Circumference-Holder Mountain. The differences in the oceans within them are such that rain falling as thick as a chariot axle fills the spaces between all the mountains and continents, forming oceans. The Playful Ocean is filled with water possessing eight qualities, its width equal to each of the seven mountains, and its depth three times each of the mountains. From the Circumference-Holder to the surrounding salty outer ocean, the width of the outer ocean is 322,000 yojanas. The continents are level in height with the ground and water. The Body Superior Continent is crescent-shaped with three sides, each two thousand yojanas long. The bulging side is three hundred and fifty yojanas wide. Jambudvipa is shaped similarly with three sides, each one and a half yojanas long. Godaniya is round with a circumference of seven thousand five hundred yojanas and a width of three thousand five hundred yojanas. Kuru is square, each side two thousand yojanas, with a perimeter of eight thousand yojanas. Body and Superior Body, Flute and Other Flute, Shifting and similarly Excellent Path. The Kuru continents are half the size of the main ones. Among the other two types of sentient beings' abodes, the abodes of the unfortunate are the nature of hell. Twenty thousand yojanas below Mount Kailash is the Avici Hell, with seven others stacked above it. The eight cold hells adjacent to it also exist like the hot hells. Temporary places have no certainty, and the neighboring hells are located around the hot hells. The root abode of the pretas is five hundred yojanas below the city of the Preta King, and its branches also exist in the worlds of gods and humans. Animals mainly reside in the great ocean, and are also scattered in the regions of gods and humans. Heavenly beings reside in the four continents and eight subcontinents, which are different because rakshasas reside in the Flute Continent. Among the two types of heavenly realms, the desire realm has six abodes: the Four Great Kings are located on the slopes of Mount Sumeru, and the sun, moon, and stars are in the immeasurable palace. The fire crystal wheel is fifty-one yojanas in measure, its base made of fire crystal with edges adorned with gold. The moon wheel is fifty yojanas in measure, its base made of water crystal with edges adorned with silver. Within these two is the city of the gods, with gardens, ponds, streets, and precious foundations. Flower rain falls knee-deep of its own accord, discarding the old and clearly displaying the new. The assembly of stars is also the essence of water crystal, the city of the gods well-encircled by golden walls. It is from one krosha to six kroshas in distance. Some have pillars of gold, copper, and water crystal. It is from one krosha to eighteen kroshas. Upon Mount Meru dwell the Thirty-Three. Unmixed flower garlands, radiant splendor, the best, etc., thirty-two nearby attendants with power and rank. The place of the chief is the land of the Thirty-Three heavens, the extent of the four faces of the summit of Mount Meru. On each face is a place of eighty thousand yojanas, with villages, lands, trees, and assembly places. In the center is the excellent palace named 'Victorious,' each face two hundred and fifty yojanas. Around it are a thousand cities of the gods, rising upwards half of five yojanas. Eight layers of eaves with buildings of seven stories each. Each of these has seven dwellings each. Outside are gardens with precious ponds. Outside of that is a city that is beautiful to behold. Each face is two thousand five hundred yojanas, and it is three and a half high, made of gold. It is surrounded by a golden fence and is beautiful and adorned. There are nine hundred and ninety-nine great gates. It is three and a half yojanas high, and two and a half wide, with gatekeepers. The streets are two thousand five hundred yojanas, twelve yojanas wide, smooth and comfortable. Ponds, precious trees, and lotuses adorn it. Outside the city are seven precious fences. Between them are seven moats adorned with swans. The gods increase their play in precious boats. At the four corners of the summit of Mount Meru are four mansions, each half of five yojanas in height. Each face is one hundred and twenty-five yojanas.
