NKL61, A Clear Exposition on the Operational Norms of the Great Temple's Monastic Kitchen: A Mirror Revealing Results. 4-34 A Clear Exposition on the Operational Norms of the Great Temple's Monastic Kitchen: A Mirror Revealing Results. A Clear Exposition on the Operational Norms of the Great Temple's Monastic Kitchen: A Mirror Revealing Results. Om Svasti! Homage to the Five Sakya Forefathers and the Vidyadhara, Homage to Manjushri-Amitabha and other wise and accomplished ones. Listen as I explain the procedures for maintaining cleanliness in the great monastery. Then say: 'Here, for the great monastery of Thubten Lhachen, we need a supervisor in charge of cleaning, a tea server, a salt administrator, a junior law enforcer, someone who is dexterous, and two bellows operators.' Because the sacred object of offering, which perfects the two accumulations in one's own and others' minds, is indeed the monastic community. In this monastery, there are tea offerings from the time of the previous lamas, the Great Passing Ceremony, the Monlam of the Miraculous Month, and countless other gatherings, without sectarian bias, for the purpose of accumulating merit and purifying obscurations for those to be tamed. The former lamas, from failure to success, have been granting rewards and support to some workers who have been performing excellent service to the monastic community. However, later, some ordinary people among the monks became harsh in their speech and inflated in their power, showing no respect for the monastic community and acting in various ways as they pleased. 4-35 Regardless of the overall situation of the country, one can only understand through personal experience. Here in Sakya, the root of well-being lies in the continuation of the lineage, but the lineage holders do not live long. The monastic community is small in number, and the rules for offerings and collections are not followed. Harvests are poor, and the subjects are poor and destitute. All these faults stem from the fact that the monastery has not followed the laws and regulations of Tibet. Therefore, from now on, we must value the monastic community and perfectly accomplish services and other tasks. All utensils such as kitchens, stoves, copper pots, and tea sets need to be repaired and rebuilt. If the supervisor can explain the reasons to the public and complete all of this, that would be best. Otherwise, it must be reported to the monastery, and all accounts must be clear and clean. And the offerings to the monastic community. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All faults such as concealing, being stingy, hiding, erasing, not practicing, etc., should be guarded against. In the great tea offering ceremony, one should joyfully make offerings, and the remaining leftovers should be collected and placed in the assembly hall, etc., but instead, the herdsmen should collect them and give them to the cows and yaks to eat. If there is too much tea for the Sangha, it will lead to impurity, waste the patron's property, harm the bodies of the Sangha, and the workers will commit serious offenses. Therefore, no more than eight portions should be given. During the Kalachakra ceremony and other occasions when there are many patrons, the host, the caretaker, and the resident should, in the presence of the patrons, store the patrons' tea, butter, salt, cheese, offerings, and milk in the monastery's storehouse, and record the names of the patrons, whether they are alive or dead, what they are seeking (pacification or increase), and which officer is responsible, and affix a red seal. These records should be organized and stored in a room near the monastery. When there is not enough tea for the Sangha, during the distribution of prayers, etc., the officer should record it, and three witnesses should supervise it, distributing it as if protecting their eyes. The fees for offering tea, butter, and dissolving tea should be collected immediately when the patron is present. In all these cases, when tea is supplied to the Sangha, first, after the Sangha has gathered, the young lawyer should inform the tea master and the butter master. Then, the young lawyer should take the butter from the public room and mix it with the tea. If I myself am on the seat of the Dharma assembly, then the salt is distributed as follows: first, from the central pillar of the main hall, then from the upper part of the corridors on the east and west sides, the left and right rows, and the left and right sides of the back row. Then, if the Khenpo (abbot) is present, it is distributed at this time; if the Khenpo is not present, it is distributed when the tea distribution is finished. This is how it was done before, but when Khen Rinpoche Wangchuk Phuntsok was in office, the Grand Secretary Kunsang and the tea master Japon Damcho Yarphel discussed and decided that the two Grand Secretaries would no longer participate in the distribution, and regardless of whether the Khenpo was present or not, the Khenpo would be responsible for the distribution. Khenpo Cho Tashi said that all of this is to respect the successive Khenpos of the monastery and to provide as much convenience as possible. Put half or one-third of the butter in the lawyer's small bowl, and then the lawyer distributes it. Then, the remaining butter is distributed to the young monks, and from their offerings, it is distributed equally to the nuns, the six-syllable mantra practitioners, and the Bonpos. If it is not enough, it is re-collected and distributed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
