A Concise Practice of Chö. May it be auspicious! Having paid homage to the victorious mother, I shall write a concise practice of Chö. The teachings of the Prajñāpāramitā have three parts: preliminaries, main practice, and conclusion. First, for the sake of all sentient beings, primarily those who harm oneself and the spirits of haunted places, one should resolve to place them on the state of Buddhahood. For this purpose, generate the intention to go to a haunted, solitary place. Then, on a lotus and moon cushion above one's head, visualize Machig Labdrön, inseparable from the Great Mother, with a white body, hair flowing down her back, right hand holding a ḍāmaru, left hand holding a bell, seated in vajra posture. Surrounded by the lineage lamas and the Buddhas of the ten directions, offer one's body and possessions, and pray: "For the benefit of all sentient beings, please bless me to abandon self-grasping. Please prevent unnecessary thoughts from arising in my mind. Please enable me to realize the unborn certainty of my own mind." Pray in this way as you go. Then, one should know the characteristics of the place, which are of three types: substance, form, and indeterminate. The first, substance, is: if the ground appears like a blazing jewel, lie down in its center. Similarly, the top of an umbrella-like peak, the waist of a fish, the belly of a conch shell, the navel of a lotus, the belly of a vase, the center of a glorious knot, the top of a victory banner. The second, form, is: the claws of a lion-like creature, the grinning mouth of a tiger-like creature, the claws and grinning mouths of leopard-like, bear-like, or wolf-like creatures. The heart of a bat, on top of a frog, turtle, or snail. The waist of a fish. The head of a snake. The horns and backs of yaks and scorpions. The source of a spring with one head, two heads, three heads, five heads, or seven heads, the central confluence of the central spring. The center of a crossroads. The top of a temple or animal pen. The center of a charnel ground or marketplace. The crevices of mountains or the shores of oceans, etc., go to the direction where it seems dangerous. The third, indeterminate, is: a dense forest. A sparse forest, either rough or smooth. The roots of trees where there are no forests or rocks.

Ma. A place with a slight cave is a rough flatness. In short, thinking that this place is suitable for living, lie down. Then, in that suitable place, whatever body posture is comfortable, do it. On the crown of the head, as before, is Machik Labdrön (Tibetan: མ་ཅིག་ལབ་སྒྲོན།). In front, thinking of praying to all sentient beings, headed by the harm-doers and the local deities, think of praying as before. Then, one's own body is complete with limbs, and the warmth of the body has not diminished, visualize it as a huge body, with the head at the top of the mountain, the feet at the end of the valley, and the left and right ribs pressing down on the left and right valleys. In the mouth, saying, until the ocean of samsara is empty, I will not move from this place of dwelling. Saying this, and thinking this in the mind. This will make the gods and demons run away, and begging and punishment will come in large quantities. Then, in an instant, from the soles of the feet, a bindu the size of a bird's egg emerges to the crown of the head. From the crown of the head, it disappears into the sky like light. Visualize that however vast the sky is, one's own awareness is that vast. Then, dividing the body into hundreds and thousands of pieces, give them to the eighty thousand types of obstructing spirits, headed by the local deities and harm-doers. Thinking that from my beginningless samsara, until the present end, whatever debts of what and what have been taken, may all karmic debts be purified, and saying this in the mouth as well. Do this as long as you have not fallen asleep. Even after waking up, do not be distracted, and give away flesh and blood. By practicing in this way, three kinds of miracles will arise: direct perception, experience, and dreams. The first is, in direct perception, countless demons, tsen, kings, and male demons, throwing mountains and combining the sun and moon. Black men with mouths open and teeth clenched. Riding on tigers, lions, and nine-headed wolves. Holding hail and snake lassos in their hands. Emitting unpleasant laughter, roaring like dragons. The breath of disease is fierce. Raining down sin and punishment like rain. Countless forms of Yama, the lord of karma, surrounded by limitless retinues. Some cutting off heads, some extracting hearts, dividing internal organs and limbs into pieces, and carrying them in all directions. Also, cannibalistic ogresses with disheveled hair. All the demons gathering together. Sin entering the body, coming out from the two holes of horns and armpits. Black snakes entering from the soles of the feet, the head coming out from the Brahma aperture. Demons gathering
