The Garland of Precious Dedications. Possessing the wisdom of knowledge and the compassion of love, the glory of activities is the splendor of all beings. I prostrate to the glorious lamas! Explaining the dedication of roots of virtue to enlightenment, here, it is very important to dedicate to enlightenment in order to make the roots of virtue inexhaustible and increasingly grow. As it is also said in the Sutra Requested by Blo-gros rgya-mtsho: "Blo-gros rgya-mtsho, for example, if a drop of saliva is dropped on sand, it will quickly dry up. If it is dropped into the great ocean, then as long as the great ocean is exhausted and dried up, that saliva will not dry up either. Blo-gros rgya-mtsho, similarly, if the accomplished root of virtue is dedicated to regret, poverty, and inferiority, it will be exhausted. If it is dedicated to the great ocean of the wisdom of the all-knowing, it will not be exhausted and will increasingly grow. Therefore, one should make dedication. There are five aspects to it: what to dedicate, the dedication, the purpose of the dedication, the manner of the dedication, and the nature of the dedication itself. What to dedicate is represented by this root of virtue, which is the virtue of oneself and others in the three times. As it is said in the Avatamsaka Sutra: "Whatever virtue all beings have, done, will be done, and are doing, and on such good grounds as are good, may all be touched by goodness from all sides." Therefore, due to the differences in field, object, and thought, it is said to be karma with visible results. If one considers the field, the Three Jewels are pure fields. As it is said in the Sutra of the King of All Dharmas: "In the world with gods, there is no field of merit other than the Three Jewels, therefore, all things are offered to them." Therefore, among them, the Sangha Jewel is the best field. As it is said in the Sutra of the Great Thousandfold Annihilation: "From planting seeds in a fertile field, the Sangha Jewel is said to be the most precious." And, the venerable teacher Nagarjuna said: "Even if not noble, to parents, the sick, and preachers of the Dharma, and to the Bodhisattva of the last birth, offerings are said to be immeasurable."

Mixed. Like the Sangha and others, it generates benefits and happiness. Thus it is said. In the Ornament of the Sutras, it is said: The generosity of the Bodhisattvas, born of love, is faultless and pure. It brings happiness, like the heart of a child, with protection and without confusion or error. Thus it is said. It is very important that the thought is free from the mind of samsara, such as fame and rewards in this life. As the esteemed teacher Ashvaghosa said: Those roots of virtue that have been cultivated, should be dedicated to the cause of transcendence, free from the mind of samsara, with hopes for fame, praise, and the happiness of gods and humans. Thus it is said. Dedication is the cause of omniscience. In the Sutra of Complete Dedication, it is said: These roots of virtue, should be dedicated to the cause of Buddhahood. Thus it is said. The specific purpose is to dedicate for the benefit of sentient beings. The teacher Shantideva also said: The body and likewise possessions, and all virtuous things of the three times, for the sake of accomplishing the benefit of all sentient beings, should be given without any reservation. Thus it is said. The manner of dedication is to understand that all conventional dharmas are like dreams and illusions, and to understand the ultimate reality as being without inherent nature or characteristics. As it is said in the Samadhiraja Sutra: Just as the moon in the water at night, appears in a clear and unclouded lake, yet the moon in the water is empty, hollow, and without essence, so should all dharmas be understood. Likewise, if one were to split open the trunk of a moist tree, seeking its heartwood, one would find no heartwood either inside or out, so should all dharmas be understood. And as it is said in the Sutra Requested by Ljonpa: Just as in a perfectly clear mirror, the image of a face appears without inherent existence, so, Ljonpa, should you understand all dharmas. Thus it is said. In ultimate reality, merit is also without characteristics. In the Compendium, it is said: If one clings to characteristics, it is not dedication to enlightenment. If one does not cling to characteristics, it is dedication to enlightenment. Thus it is said. Therefore, the root of virtue, oneself, and all that is accumulated, should be seen as mere appearances within the dream of last night, without grasping at them, and in this state, the essence of dedication is transformed into perfect enlightenment. As a witness to the accomplishment of dedication, the space in front
