The Empowerment of Utter Simplicity. I prostrate to the spontaneously perfect, free from effort! Now, I shall explain the empowerment of utter simplicity, directly revealing the nature of mind. For the disciple who has previously completed the three empowerments, in the morning, first arrange offerings and tormas. On a mandala that is level and round, arrange golden ornaments and offer them to the lama. In order to generate the light of wisdom, the lama faces east. In order to make the appearances of the world subside, the disciple faces west and sits comfortably. Do not let awareness wander elsewhere, but with one-pointedness, think that you will directly realize the meaning of the unborn nature of mind. Then, the lama asks: Child, who are you? The disciple replies three times: I am the only son of the fortunate mind. The lama says again: Since that is so, enter this mandala of mind that has never arisen from the very beginning! Thus it is said. Then, prostrate to the lama and supplicate: Alas, Vajradhara! Please especially consider me. I have long dwelt in the three realms of samsara and have lost my memory. In order to transcend samsara, I also supplicate you, lama. In countless hundreds of thousands of kalpas, I have repeatedly wandered in samsara. Please show me the self-born wisdom of Vajrasattva, cutting off the root and foundation, arising from the mind of the Buddha, the supreme essence of mind. Say this three times. Then, straighten the body, join the palms, entrust the mind to the lama, and without letting awareness wander, settle into one-pointedness of mind. Then, at the moment when conceptual thoughts arise, the lama suddenly and forcefully says: Where is the mind? Ask this three times. The experience of awareness is: It is neither this nor that, it is immeasurable, the meaning that is difficult to express will arise in the disciple's continuum. At this time, past conceptual thoughts cease, future ones have not yet arisen, present awareness is clear and non-conceptual, grasping the nature of the moment, external objects appear, internal aggregates, the intermediate faculties, even if sought with conceptual thought, cannot be found. Recognizing and settling into the lamp of self-born wisdom that is without birth or cessation is the main part of the empowerment. This purifies the defilements of the mind, and the fourth, co-emergent wisdom, is directly transcended.

For the sake of arising. Then, the disciple to be prophesied is made to look to the east, with a lion-like posture, knees slightly on the ground, soles of the feet together, hands placed outside the knees, hips slightly protruding outwards, spine straightened, and with the mind contemplating the unborn nature of reality. The lama then speaks thus: Ema, fortunate and only son of the heart, in the east you have the pure land of Manifest Joy (Abhirati), which is very beautiful and pleasing. The perfectly complete Buddha, the Bhagavan Vajra Akshobhya, each listens to the Dharma from their own teacher, each teaches the Dharma to their own attendants, and each reveals the suchness of the secret mantra through the clear light of their own heart essence. Son, look there with the gaze of an elephant and go with the leap of a lion! "Ah Ah," thus sealed. Again, to the south, the elephant's crouching posture is with knees on the ground, both hands with elbows placed in front of the knees, head resting on the knees, both palms slightly supporting the cheeks, eyes between the eyebrows facing south. The lama then speaks thus: Ema, fortunate son of the heart, in the south you have the world called Glorious (Srimat), beautiful and pleasing. The perfectly complete Buddha, Ratnasambhava, each listens to the Dharma from their own teacher, each teaches the Dharma to their own retinue, and each reveals the suchness of the secret mantra through the clear light of their own heart essence. Son, go there, look with the gaze of a lion, and go with the leap of a tigress! "Ah Ah," thus spoken. Again, to the west, the posture of a sage is to sit cross-legged on the ground, with elbows on the knees, both hands supporting the sides of the cheeks, body straightened, facing west. The lama then speaks thus: Ema, fortunate son of the heart, in the west you have the pure land called Lotus Array (Padmavyuha), beautiful and pleasing. The perfectly complete Buddha, the Bhagavan Amitabha, each listens to the Dharma from their own teacher, each teaches the Dharma to their own attendants, and each reveals the suchness of the secret mantra through the clear light of their own heart essence. Son, there, with the majestic posture of great power
