From now on, when going to the great path of the future, all the sins accumulated for the sake of parents, relatives, and friends cannot be shared with anyone, but must be borne by oneself. At that time, there is no harmful sin, even if the entire Jambudvipa becomes an enemy, not a single arrow will be shot at you. Apart from the sacred Dharma, even if one possesses the wealth of the entire Jambudvipa, one cannot even take a needle and thread. Therefore, the sacred Dharma is protector, refuge, continent, army, light, and lamp. So, right now, one must practice a Dharma that is beneficial at the time of death. In this regard, the small person knows that the three lower realms are suffering and, with the thought of seeking the high status of gods and humans, cultivates the three objects of merit. Thus, the small person accomplishes the Dharma of death in his own way. However, neither the intermediate nor the great person can accomplish the Dharma of death in their own way. The intermediate person knows that the three realms of existence, samsara, are suffering and, motivated by the thought of renunciation, desiring only his own liberation, cultivates the three precious trainings of the superior path with the thought of wanting to attain liberation. Thus, the intermediate person accomplishes the Dharma of death, but cannot accomplish the Dharma of death of the great person. The great person, motivated by the altruistic Bodhicitta, cultivates a Dharma of death through any of the three paths: the long path of the Characteristic Vehicle, the near path of the Vajra Vehicle, or the swift path of the Great Perfection of Clear Light. Thus, the great person accomplishes the completely pure Dharma of death of his own path. In particular, if one cultivates a completely pure Dharma of death through the path of the Great Perfection of Clear Light, then between birth and death, the hands will separate, and one will seize the fortress of the unborn, innate state. One should not think of not doing it, hoping for death, nor should one think of abandoning that vow, hoping to abandon it. These two iron hooks of vows will alternately seize you. In this way, dividing sessions and intervals between sessions, one meditates alternately on analysis and placement in the actual session. The fundamental intention is to meditate temporarily through the subsequent attainment of the path. Now, even though such impermanent death comes, it is only like a fire extinguishing or water drying up, ending there. But death is not annihilation; one must take rebirth. Therefore, it is said that after death, one does not go anywhere other than this place of samsara.

Because there is no leisure, one must contemplate the faults of samsara. Samsara is the three realms, and the faults are the three sufferings. Like this, even if one obtains a precious human body endowed with eighteen endowments, one is still subject to impermanence and death, so one is chased by the sufferings of birth, old age, sickness, and death in this life, and greeted by the sufferings of the bardo. It connects to the sufferings of the next life. That is, waking up from the swoon of the bardo, at first not knowing that one has died, seeing one's relatives and others crying and wailing, one says, "I am not dead, I am here," but they cannot see or hear. Then one thinks, "Have I really died?" So one examines whether the sun has a shadow, whether there are footprints on the sand, whether there is a reflection in the water. If these are not there, one thinks, "I must have died," and because of fear, four terrifying sounds arise: the sound like the great earth shaking at once, the sound like the three thousand great thousand worlds being burned by fire, the sound like the three thousand great thousand worlds being scattered by wind, and the sound like the three thousand great thousand worlds being destroyed by water. There are also three terrible precipices: generally, when the self-radiance of desire appears like a dim time, everything looks red and dazzling; the self-radiance of hatred, everything looks white and glaring; the self-radiance of ignorance, everything looks dark and gloomy. When these appearances arise, those with purified karma will be greeted by heroes and dakinis, and will be liberated upwards; those who have committed the five heinous crimes, according to the tantric tradition, will see appearances of karmic agents and many Yamaraja's messengers, and will fall downwards. Others may stay for forty-nine days, or perhaps three sevens or four days, etc., the time is uncertain. If one stays for forty-nine days, for more than half the time one will see the previous body, and for less than half the time one will see the body of the next life. If one is born in hell or as a hungry ghost, one will see the appearance of walking head down; if one is born as an animal, one will see the appearance of having tangled horns on the head, or crawling. If one is born as a god or a human, one will see the appearance of walking head up, and the light of the sun and moon will appear on the body. Like this, through the suffering of the bardo, the suffering of the next life begins. This is also the method of guidance.

In short, although the teachings on karma and its effects have been explained before, here, as the Tathagata first taught the Dharma of the Four Noble Truths, as it is said, "Suffering should be known," first, suffering should be known, which is the fault of samsara. Then, the origin should be abandoned, which is the teaching of karma and its effects. Then, relying on the path, contemplating the benefits of liberation, and the teaching of relying on a spiritual friend, these two connect the stages of the path, from the actual path of refuge to guru yoga, and the cessation should be realized, which is the teaching of the main practice of the Great Perfection of Clear Light, so that the lazy are liberated effortlessly, the original purity of Trekchö, and the diligent are liberated with effort, the teachings of spontaneous leap-over Tögal, etc. Secondly, impermanence of life.
