Eighty intermediate kalpas are named as one great kalpa, and this is a method of meditation, and there are other explanations. Thus, just as the external world and the internal sentient beings are impermanent, internally, one's own body is the external world, and consciousness is like the sentient beings within. First, from the formation in the mother's womb to birth is formation; from childhood to old age is dwelling; from being struck by the disease of death to death is destruction. The white channel dissolves into water, the red channel dissolves into fire, the black channel dissolves into wind, and fainting is the moment of emptiness. Therefore, all external and internal worlds and sentient beings are impermanent. Meditate by separating sessions and intervals, alternating between examination and contemplation, so that at the time of death, what is beneficial is virtue, and what is harmful is sin. Think that there is nothing else besides these. If what is harmful is sin, as Jetsun Milarepa said, sin has no merit, but confession can purify sin, and this is the merit of sin. If there is no virtue, what should one do now to achieve it? Therefore, from now on, one must take stock of virtue and sin in one's own mind. Otherwise, if one only takes stock of virtue and sin at the time of death, and if there is only sin and no virtue, one will think, 'The father is not like a father, the mother is not like a mother, and the relatives are not as one wishes.' Eyes will be filled with tears, the chest will be covered with nail marks, and the heart will be filled with sorrow and regret. One must go to the long road of the afterlife. So now, one must repeatedly think, 'Should I die without practicing the pure Dharma that is beneficial at the time of death?' In the situation where it is uncertain when death will come, one must die, it is uncertain when death will come, and at the time of death, nothing is beneficial. These three must be meditated on by separating sessions and intervals. Among them, first, one must die, because if there is birth, there is necessarily the law of death, just like the sun setting in the west or livestock being led to the slaughterhouse. Every moment passes, every instant passes, and life is exhausted. Just like a person who is now eighty years old and a child who is just one day old, if they live to be a hundred years old, neither of them will have the opportunity to exist. Therefore, the principle that one must die is easy to understand. It is uncertain when death will come, because the cause of not generating (this idea) in the mind. It is uncertain when death will come, because one thinks that one is young, so there is no certainty of not dying; one thinks that the favorable conditions such as food and clothing are complete, so there is no certainty of not dying; one thinks that one is free from illness, so there is no certainty of not dying. If one must have the certainty of not dying, either the Teacher, the All-Knowing One, says that you will only reach this point.

Or be prophesied that you will not die, or have immaculate clairvoyance yourself, thinking that you will not die so easily, or meet with Yama, the Lord of Death, and make a good agreement saying, "You will not take me at this time," otherwise, the current lifespan is like an arrow or a candle, like the strength of a person's fingers and the exhaustion of oil, not knowing whether it will be exhausted today, or tomorrow, or the waning of this month, or next month or next year, so it is not known when one will die. When life is exhausted and one dies, even if the Buddha of Medicine bestows medicine, Amitayus bestows the longevity empowerment, and Vajrapani protects, death cannot be avoided. Although sudden death can be prevented, just as a candle is blown out by the wind before the oil is exhausted, four hundred and four kinds of sudden diseases, eighty thousand kinds of spirits, three hundred and sixty kinds of demons, etc., can suddenly cause death, so the lifespan of Jambudvipa is uncertain. No matter where you go, you will die, no matter who you are with, you will die, no matter where you live, you will die, whether you have wealth or not, you will die. Therefore, this matter of lifespan, not knowing whether it will be exhausted today, so it is not known when one will die. Even if the lifespan is not exhausted, one will not know when one will die due to sudden causes, so think about it again and again from the heart. At the time of death, there is nothing to rely on. At the time of death, except for the sacred Dharma, food, clothing, shelter, property, parents, relatives, and friends, no one can help. Even if one is the master of thousands of monks, one cannot take away a single monk. Even if one is the leader of tens of thousands of tribes, one has no power to take away a single servant. Even if one has dominion over the wealth of the entire Jambudvipa, one has no power to take away even a needle and thread. Even the cherished body must be left behind. One sleeps on the last bed, enjoys the last food, wears the last clothes, speaks the last words, is surrounded by the last relatives and friends, and when death comes, no one can stop it, no one can stay, relatives and friends and wealth cannot be abandoned, nor will they follow, but one leaves naked and empty-handed.
