Thus it is. Regarding the manner of suffering by dealing with the realm of benefit and harm through cause and effect, as stated in "to me" etc. In this regard, as it is said in the world, from beginningless time, to us, friends or enemies, relatives or adversaries, etc., it is impossible to conceive. As it is said in the Letter to a Friend: "A father is a son, a mother is a wife, an enemy is also a friend, and vice versa, therefore, there is no certainty in samsara." Thus it is. At all those times, sentient beings, with the very basis of obtaining a body, cling to "this is an enemy, this is a friend, this is neutral," and with a discriminating mind, bestow benefit or inflict harm, which is beyond comprehension. As the noble Katyayana said: "When a householder was begging for alms, he held the enemy's young son in his lap, ate the father who had become a fish, and the mother, who had become a dog, struck the fish bones. Seeing this scene, he said: 'Eating the father's flesh, striking the mother, holding the evil enemy in the lap, the wife gnawing on the husband's bones, the ways of samsara are laughable.'" Thus it is. From beginningless time, experiencing suffering with countless bodies, it shows its duration. As stated in "dust particle" etc. Here, what need is there to elaborate on the length of birth? Like tiny beings, like bodies of dust particles, the sole life force, abandoning the corpse transformed into form, and indulging for the sake of desire, or with others' weapons etc., cutting off heads and limbs, if all the corpses were piled up in one place, it would be higher than Mount Sumeru, diminishing the grandeur of the king of mountains. Now, explaining the nature of each of the six realms, in the first of the three, teaching, explaining, and summarizing, as stated in "hell realm" etc. When born in the hell realm, being forced to drink molten copper, and when transformed into the body of a hungry ghost, eating pus and blood and impure things, and if all the tears flowing from all causes of suffering were gathered in one place, it would be more than the rivers reaching in all directions. Thus it is. Secondly, explaining separately, as stated in "difference" etc. Compared to other realms, the suffering of hell is especially immeasurable. Killing each other with various weapons, dying and reviving, therefore it is called the Reviving Hell, that

Like drawing lines on the body with black lines, sawing and splitting, immediately healing, and the suffering never ceases, hence it is called the Black Line Hell. The Gathering and Crushing Hell is where mountains with the image of terrifying animal heads gather together, squeezing in the middle, and grinding into powder with hammers. The Howling Hell is where molten iron is boiled in an iron pot inside a layer of iron house, and pierced with weapons from the outside. The Great Howling Hell is where a two-layered iron house is burned. The Hot Hell is where the entire body is pierced with burning iron skewers. The Extremely Hot Hell is where a three-pronged short spear pierces from the lower part of the body upwards, passing through the shoulders and head, then wrapped with burning hot iron sheets, and cooked in boiling copper water. The Uninterrupted Hell is where, in an extremely burning iron house, it is burned without distinction as "this is the fire that burns, and these are the beings that are burned," completely wailing in a single mass of flames. To illustrate the remaining parts of those hells and the nearby places, suffering and so on are spoken of. When one day, as above, most of the karma to be experienced has been exhausted, gasping from that suffering, and attempting to escape with the thought of seeking an opportunity for happiness, the first door that opens nearby is the pit of dung fire, mistaken for a stream of ashes and entering, up to the waist, even the flesh is burned. The bones are also turned into powder and split, then restored. Beside them, Yama's messengers, who previously served in various ways, appear to be guarding. The second is the Corpse Mud Hell, falling into the external foul mud, where creatures with white bodies, black heads, and sharp beaks pierce the skin, and creatures like birds grab the body, which is like a net, causing suffering. The third is the Sword Forest Hell, seeing the appearance of a blue forest from afar, running and arriving, the trees are swayed by the wind, raining down a rain of weapons, and the body is pierced. The fourth is the Immeasurable River Hell, in the center of all the ground covered with razors, is a hot spring with corrosive and hot properties, filled with three-pronged short spears, arrows, and sharp swords, cooking and destroying in unbearable pain.

It is even more severe than the mouth of Yama. These are in four groups in the four directions of Avici Hell, so there are sixteen. The razor plain just mentioned and the sword tree to be discussed are not counted among the previous four, as the great scholar Blo gros chen po also stated. The former, the razor plain, is not grasped by the roots, and the latter, the sword tree, is said to be called "Dear," etc. This is because of missing husbands, wives, and other close ones, so when the sight of calling appears at the top of the sword tree, remembering the vow of "Dear," they rush to go. Many dogs, donkeys, wolves chase after them, and sharp iron thorns are thrust upwards on the road, severely piercing the body, blood flowing profusely. Touching the burning and rough iron husbands and wives, whoever they see, they embrace each other, and finally suffer. Again, they feel called at the top of the tree, and when they go, as before, thorns and short spears, etc., pierce upwards, suffocating and falling into the abyss. Vultures and others peck at the eyes, pull out the intestines, etc., and are tormented by suffering. The cold hells are: Alas! Compared to this unbearable burning touch, how much better it would be if it were colder! Such a wish is the same as the weakening of the cause of suffering experienced before and the corresponding rebirth. Among them, there are two explanations, common and separate. The first is, it is said to be called "Blizzard," etc. Like this, even if only the inverted earth is placed, the great snow mountain surrounded by unbearable canyons, fighting in snow and rain, the blizzard is very fierce, is not visible. The trembling body is extremely cold, as if tightly bound by a rope, becoming curved and unable to move. However, the feeling of suffering can still be felt, and consciousness is still clear, as if alive. However, due to the power of the wind, the sharp weapons pierce the depths of the bones, and the cold touch squeezes between the teeth, suffering to the point of death. The second is, it is said to be called "Blister," etc. Because it is too cold, the body is filled with blisters, so it is called the blister hell. Similarly, the blisters burst and turn into wounds. Therefore, they utter the groans of "Achuu" and the sighs of "Kyihud."

Merely a hoarse voice, even unable to produce sound, teeth clenched tightly. Skin cracks into six sections like an উৎপལ་ flower, and like a lotus and a great lotus, it cracks into eight, sixteen, then twenty-four, thirty-two, up to countless cracks. Creatures with sharp beaks peck and devour, with pus, mucus, and marrow also dripping. The lifespan of these, etc., is explained in detail elsewhere. Next, the minor limbs are shown, as mentioned in the sutras such as "obstacles." Cutting down trees or obstacles, mistaking them for one's own body, or being wrapped inside stones and rocks without doors, etc. Furthermore, pestles, brooms, mallets, winnowing baskets, doors, pillars, stoves, and ropes, etc., all sorts of impure, other-dependent forms transformed by karma, regard them as their own bodies and cling to them, having to endure endless suffering, as explained in the Vinaya Pitaka and other scriptures. Thus, the eighteen sufferings of hell are widely known. Furthermore, in the Akashagarbha Sutra, when explaining the cycle of Avici Hell, it is said: Breaking vows and accepting the offerings of devout patrons will lead to falling into the minor hells. There are the Freezing Hell, the Dark Hell, the Extremely Hot Hell, the Razor-Toothed Hell, the Sword Wheel Hell, the Fiery Chariot Hell, the Mud of Excrement Hell, the Hot Spring Hell, the River of Burning Embers Hell, the Forest of Sword-Edged Leaves Hell, the Iron Wheel Hell, the Iron Shalmali Tree Pillar Hell, the Iron Bed Hell, the Iron Wheel Hell, the Iron Cave Hell, the Iron Hammer Hell, the Gathering Destruction Hell, the Continuous Hell, the Copper Cauldron Hell, and so on. Thus, the suffering of hell is far more profound than any other suffering. Nagarjuna also said: The suffering of being fiercely struck by three hundred short swords in a single day here, one cannot even mention, let alone endure, the slightest suffering of hell. Those who see, hear, remember, read, or depict the scenes of hell will feel fear, let alone the unbearable ripening of karma?
