Here, the teaching called "The Quintessential Lamp," is the twenty-second of the twenty-five root texts of the wrathful Mind Sadhana. When the great teacher of Orgyen, Padma Jungne, who knows the three times, Was beseeched by five kinds of pure disciples with karma, He established: The Secret Precious Assembly as the representation of the body, The Quintessential Hero, the Single Syllable, as the representation of speech, The Quintessential Lamp of Padma as the representation of mind, The Sadhana of the Secret Dakinis as the representation of qualities, And the essential points of taming beings with karma, with the Thim and seals, as the representation of activity. Here, the Quintessential Lamp, which is established as the representation of mind, is the Dharma that is to be explained. The lineage from which it originated, and the instructions that came from that lineage, are explained in two general topics: the lineage and the instructions. First, the lineage from which it originated is: In general, the Northern Treasures have three lineages: the lineage of sons, the lineage of disciples, and the lineage of consorts. The great treasure revealer vidyadhara Gödemchen Ngodrup Gyaltsen Zhap, with the catalog of the hermit Sangpo Dropa, and relying on the treasure key from Riwö Trazang, from the waist rock of Northern Zangzang Lhadrak, a rock resembling a pile of poisonous snakes, invited the great treasures of the five treasuries, each treasure containing hundreds of Dharma sections, hence it is known as five hundred sections. The practice of the Wrathful Mind, most of it was invited from the Southern Golden Treasury. Thus, the great treasure revealer and the prince Namgyal Gonpo, the two fathers and sons, gave it to the prophesied disciple vidyadhara Sangye Jamyang Zangpo, who was taken care of by them. He gave it to Seton Nyima Zangpo, who was the direct disciple of the treasure revealer. Furthermore, the previous Setons loaded yaks and searched for a practice place, and when the yak lay down in that place, they struck it with sticks but it did not get up, but lay down like a castle, so they laid the foundation of the residence there.
