A Written Record of the Manifest Realization of the Five Families from the Innermost Secret Mind Treasure. A Written Record of the Manifest Realization of the Five Families from the Innermost Secret Mind Treasure. From the Innermost Secret Mind Treasure, here is the Written Record of the Manifest Realization of the Five Families. I prostrate to the Guru, the Victorious Ones of the Five Families! Having completed the outer practice of Samantabhadra, Samantabhadra instantly transforms the place, and one enters into the practice of meditation and recitation of the manifest realization of the Five Families. Regarding the method of meditating on the generation stage, in the 'Hundred Thousand Bindus' of the Three Teachers, it is said: 'With the sharpest intellect, one generates the deity's form in an instant of complete recollection. The conceptual thoughts are Guru Padmasambhava, Vimalamitra, and Śīlamañju.' Note: It is better not to offer to other intermediaries, as it is a gathering of wisdom. As it is said, this is the view of Ati Yoga. With the sharpest intellect, in the state of emptiness and compassion, one arises as the deity by reciting the root mantra. Having few thoughts, one possesses both merit and wisdom, which is the view of Anu Yoga. With a medium intellect, one arises as the deity through three rituals, as it is said, which is the view of Maha Yoga. Among the three methods of meditation, here, according to the instructions of Ati Yoga for those with the sharpest faculties, one meditates on complete recollection in an instant. Furthermore, understanding the objects of appearance as unreal is the illusory generation stage. Spontaneously arising as appearance and emptiness is the profound generation stage. The deity's form with face and hands is the emanation body's generation stage. It is said that the former is when appearance is filled with emptiness, and the latter is when emptiness is filled with appearance. When the meaning is condensed into practice, the unobstructed play of the clear light of self-awareness, appearing as the forms of the Five Families such as Vairochana, and arising without inherent existence, is held by unwavering and non-grasping mindfulness. One trains in transforming appearance, sound, and awareness into deity, mantra, and dharmakaya. The initial three syllables, according to the Maha Yoga tantra, are: Oṃ (ओ,oṃ) is the samadhi of suchness, great emptiness; Āḥ (आ,āḥ) is the samadhi of universal appearance, compassion and illusion; Hūṃ (हुं,hūṃ) is the teaching of the samadhi of cause, mudra yoga. Although this is the case, here, in order to understand that appearance is deity, sound is mantra, and recollection and awareness are mind, the three syllables precede. Vairochana's lion throne and the thrones of the other four families, as well as meditating on the lotus, sun, and moon, the mind is the four fearlessnesses.
