The source of this, which is transmitted from one accomplished person to another, so that the tradition of song does not decline but develops, and which is drawn from the horse of melody, is: In general, all the profound and vast wheels of Dharma of the master of the teachings, the Teacher Bhagavan, are expressed from the conch of the sacred Dharma, the throat of the glory of the accomplished ones, by the ocean of the limbs of melody. One of the twelve categories of scriptures is known as the category expressed by melody, and it is proven. And also, in the Vinaya Pitaka, it says: It should be recited in a continuous third way, accompanied by the sound of melody. And, in the chapter on the vows of conduct of the bodhisattva Samantabhadra in the Avatamsaka Sutra, it says: Those inexhaustible oceans of praise, with the sound of the ocean of the limbs of melody, perfectly tell the qualities of all the victors, I praise all the Sugatas. Etc., from many scriptures of the Small Vehicle and the Great Vehicle, the sound of praising the Three Jewels, and reciting many doors of the sacred Dharma with the sound of melody and pleasant tones, and reciting, and approximately showing, and transmitting, and reciting. In particular, at the pinnacle of the profound Vajrayana, in the countless tantras of the Unsurpassed Yoga, at the time of the gathering circle and the feast of heroes and heroines, there arose countless forms of singing Vajra songs. For example, in the fourth chapter of the later section of the Root Tantra of Hevajra, it says: Vajra Dharma and the Buddha, Yoginis and female protectors, with these songs and dances, sing and dance well. And, in the Hevajra Tantra, it says: All songs, dances, and actions, there is nothing that is not the activity of the victors. Etc., it is inconceivable. Furthermore, in the sacred land of India, the eight great yogic masters prophesied by the victors, and the eighty-four male and female yogis who gather in one gathering circle and practice, etc., the dohas and Vajra songs of those inconceivable yogis were also translated into Tibetan by the previous translators and wise men, and they are manifestly present, from which it can be known. In particular, the realization Vajra songs of the precious Kagyu

These songs, even for those who merely hear them, awaken the memory of faith, generate the definite understanding of conviction, subdue the pride of experience, and inspire the courage of realization. In short, they are the essence of the ocean of tantras, the intention of countless wise and accomplished ones, the heart's blood of hundreds of thousands of dakinis, and the lamp that illuminates the path of liberation. Fortunate individuals with sharp faculties, upon hearing them, are instantly liberated from all bonds and are fully capable of attaining enlightenment in this very life. The general outline of such songs has five aspects: the necessity of singing the songs, the time for singing the songs, how to sing the songs, the thought during singing the songs, and the general and specific meaning of the songs. First, the necessity of singing the songs is: to triumph over the obstacles of external demons, the obstacles of imbalances in the elements of the body, and the obstacles of the mind in meditation, all the protectors of the mundane and supramundane realms will rejoice, thereby all aspects of virtue will completely increase. Temporarily, one will attain longevity, freedom from illness, the fulfillment of all wishes, and the eight siddhis such as the sword, one will control appearances, fame will spread in all directions, activities will transform according to one's desires, and all the heroes, dakinis, dharma protectors, and guardians will gather like swans in a lotus lake. Even without attachment, a rain of enjoyment will fall, the qualities of the higher and higher paths will effortlessly arise, the meaning of dharmata will be realized, and ultimately, in this very life, one will attain the supreme siddhi of Mahamudra. Second, the time for singing the songs is: the festivals of the root or lineage gurus, and the four great festivals of the Buddha, etc., after accomplishing the great mandala and engaging in offerings, after receiving empowerment, during empowerment, consecration, tsokhorlo, meditation sessions, leisure, and the practice of yogic conduct, etc. Third, the manner of how to sing the songs is: the posture of body and speech, the action of the body is to wear the majestic meditation hat, the symbol of the Kagyu lineage's preciousness, and to wear the three dharma robes, and to sing with the body in the seven-point posture of Vairochana. The action of speech is to recite the unbroken oral transmission of the blessing lineage gurus and accomplished ones, and the learned masters.
