In the impure mandala of samsaric karma, With the fruits of countless unpleasant ripenings, Again and again suffering in the prison of duhkha, Look upon us, sentient beings burdened by karma. Tormented by countless delusions since beginningless time, With small desires for happiness, we accumulate great samsaric karma. Regarding the appearance of self-satisfaction and pride as an enemy, Even though we still have not transformed our samsaric karma, Like the sutras and tantras seen with compassion by all the Buddhas, And the instructions of the great and holy beings, As well as the good biographies of the accomplished lineage holders, I will explain the precious instructions to some who desire liberation. If, upon examination, it is free from error, then it is the true Dharma; If, upon practice, there is no regret and there is happiness, then it is the path to liberation; If one leads disciples onto the path, then one is a lama; If one understands the lama's words as Dharma, then one is a disciple. May I not become a false lama who deceives with a great name, Nor a disciple who relies on such lamas, desiring fame and profit, Nor one who possesses a Dharma that only appears to be true, but deceives others. Now, may we not become such lamas! You have obtained a human body from the state of the lower realms, You have entered the Dharma, growing from a bad life, If you wish to be liberated from the prison of samsara, To encourage virtue, I will impart the instructions of the superiors. First, ten ways to whip the mind: The happiness and prosperity of samsara are a prison of suffering. 1.
