A Note on the Four Session Practice. A Note on the Four Session Practice. A Note on the Four Session Practice is presented. Namo Guru Karma Kāya. Sanskrit Romanization: Namo guru karma kāye, Literal meaning: Homage to the Guru, Karma, Body). The essence is indeed Avalokiteśvara, the eight names of the Guru and the eight forms of Zhang are said to be one in essence with the eight Karmapas. Therefore, from the collected teachings and sealed instructions of Zhang, having extracted and slightly added to it, Mikyö Dorje composed this Four Session Practice. Although there exists an extensive version of this practice requested by Wangchuk Dorje from Yangri Drungpa Sonam Zangpo, it is not solely the visualization sequence of this text. There are many condensed visualization sequences for Mahamudra Six Dharmas, Devotion Mahamudra Three, and due to the numerous interspersed recitations, the life force of reciting this has not arisen. There seems to be a custom of reciting four rounds of Mani at the beginning. The object of meditation based on the very words of this text is: Above the crown of one's head, in an ordinary state, is a red ḍākiṇī, beautiful and pleasing. Her hair is loose, her three eyes gaze into the sky. She holds a damaru, a kapala, and nectar. Naked without ornaments, her radiance blazes with light. To increase the great bliss free from defilements, she displays various dance postures. White, yellow, red, green, blue, black, and variegated in color. Such countless billions fill the sky and space like dust. In the sky directly above the crown of one's head, in a tent of interwoven rainbows and light, on a seat of stacked lotus, sun, and moon, Mikyö Dorje, Chöying Dorje, and so forth, whichever Karmapa one prefers, wearing monastic robes, a black hat with golden luster, with hands crossed at the heart holding a vajra and bell, seated in vajra posture, contemplate as the embodiment of all Buddhas. From "Namo Guru" onwards, the time until the supplication is the time for visualization. Then, from "Appearing yet empty" until "Bless with your mind," supplicate single-mindedly to the body, speech, and mind. From the body, speech, and mind of the lama, rays of light of various colors spread throughout the sky. The billionfold trichiliocosm is Karmapa himself.

And hundreds of billions of others. All realms pervaded by emanations, Arouse the compassion of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. All transform into the form of Karmapa, Wearing monastic robes and a golden-hued black hat. The four hands and feet make blessing mudras. Accompanied by rainbow lights, flower rain, and incense, Having come forth filling the sky and space, All dissolve into the Karmapa at the crown of my head. Meditating thus, from Guru Ratna onwards, Recite with melody, requesting pacification. These are both invocation and descent. Because of this actual appearance, the Situpa's, Face-seeing Thangka also came to be painted. Then, all the dakinis filling the sky and space, One dissolving into another, Five colors and black, mottled seven, Encircle and reside at the crown of the Karmapa's head. From the Karma Dakini, body color green, Green rays of light shine upon myself and the object to be protected, Eliminating diseases, evil spirits, and shadows arising from jealousy, Like sunlight striking mist. From beginningless lifetimes until now, All sins, obscurations, faults, and downfalls arising from jealousy, Meditate on confessing before the Karma Dakini. Similarly, from the Ratna Dakini, yellow, Golden rays of light emanate, eliminating diseases, evil spirits, and shadows arising from pride, And confess pride's sins and obscurations before her. Padma Dakini, red, With rays of light, Eliminates diseases, evil spirits, and shadows arising from attachment, Confess diseases, evil spirits, and sins before her. Buddha Dakini, white, With rays of light, Eliminates diseases, evil spirits, and shadows arising from ignorance, Confess all faults of ignorance before her. Samaya Dakini, black, With dark blue rays of light, Eliminates broken and degenerated samaya, This black one is none other than Palden Lhamo, Confess broken and degenerated samaya before her. Vajra Dakini, blue, With rays of light, Eliminates diseases, evil spirits, and shadows arising from hatred, Confess hatred's sins and obscurations before her. Various Dakinis, body color mottled, With rays of light of various colors emanating, Eliminates all diseases, evil spirits, and shadows accumulated from the three times equally, All transgressions, errors, and faults, Confess all of them before her. This is the supreme purification of obscurations, The dakini of aimless non-elaboration.
