Having realized the nature of reality, possessing unobstructed and eternally abiding compassion, they liberate sentient beings from afflictions. Thus it is said. With the meaning and activities it signifies, for example: The Buddhas, with the eye of Buddha's wisdom, even see that beings in hell possess the pure nature of their own minds, the Tathagatagarbha. The Buddha, possessing unobstructed, eternally abiding wisdom, compassion, and activity, liberates beings to be tamed from temporary afflictions. The third is: As the Tathagata is in the closed, unpleasant lotus, as those with divine eyes see it within, and cut off its petals. Seeing that all beings possess the complete Buddha-nature obscured by the sheath of defilements such as attachment and hatred, with compassion, just as the Buddha removes the obscurations of the body, so he destroys those afflictions. Thus it is said. The above-mentioned analogy and meaning are again well combined to make it clearer. For example: In the heart of the closed, unpleasant lotus, the body of the Tathagata abides. Some with divine eyes see it within the lotus, and in order to take it out, they cut off the petals of the lotus, just as the Tathagatagarbha of the complete Buddha, obscured by the sheath of defilements such as desire and hatred, is seen to be possessed by all beings. Therefore, for those beings who have not realized it, by the power of immeasurable compassion, just as the Buddha removes the obscurations of the body, the lotus petals, so also he destroys these temporary obscurations, performing such activities. The second analogy and meaning have three points: analogy, meaning, and combined explanation. The first point is: As honey surrounded by a swarm of creatures, a wise person seeks that meaning, sees it, and with skillful means, causes it and the swarm of creatures to be completely separated. Thus it is said. Analogy: Just as honey existing in the middle surrounded by a swarm of creatures, bees, a wise person, through observation and skillful means, in order to obtain the honey, sees that the honey is in the middle of the bees, and through methods such as smoking, completely separates the honey and the swarm of creatures, and then obtains the honey.

Just like obtaining. Secondly, the great sage, with the eye of omniscience, sees the lineage realm as being like honey, and like honeybees, completely eliminates its obscurations. Thus it is said, the great sage, the Buddha, with the eye of omniscience, sees that the realm of awareness, enveloped in afflictions, is like honey surrounded by bees, which all sentient beings possess. In order to realize it, he shows the path to completely eliminate the obscurations like bees, manifesting the Dharmakaya. Thirdly, just as honey is obscured by hundreds of thousands of creatures, bees, the person seeking honey, removes those bees and makes honey as he desires. Similarly, the uncontaminated wisdom that beings possess is like the essence of honey, afflictions are like bees, and the victorious one who conquers afflictions is like a person skilled in obtaining honey. Thus it is said, just as honey is covered by hundreds of thousands of bees, the person seeking honey, with skillful means, removes those bees and makes honey as he desires. Similarly, the uncontaminated wisdom that sentient beings possess, the pure Tathagatagarbha is enveloped, just like honey surrounded by bees, the afflictions that obscure the lineage are like bees, the method of conquering afflictions, the victorious one is like a person skilled in obtaining honey. The example and meaning are threefold: example, meaning, and combined explanation. First, just as the essence of grain with husks, people cannot enjoy it, those who seek it for food and other purposes, must take it out from the husk. Thus it is said, just as the essence of fruit with husks, people cannot enjoy it, those who seek it for food and other enjoyment purposes, must take the fruit out from the husk. Second, similarly, the afflictions that sentient beings possess, mixed with defilements, the victorious ones also do as much as possible, afflictions.

Not liberated from the mixture of defilements, until then, it will not perform the deeds of becoming a Buddha, and will not manifest the embodiments of the three realms. Thus it is said. Similarly, the Tathagatagarbha mixed with the defilements of sentient beings, as long as it is not liberated from the mixture of defilements, until then, it will not show the deeds of becoming a Buddha in the three realms, and only when free from obscurations will it rejoice in the activities of the Buddha. The third is: Just as the essence of grains like salu, brao, and barley, if not taken out of the husk, and not well processed, people will not enjoy delicious food. Similarly, the Dharma Lord present in sentient beings, if not liberated from the husk of afflictions, will not give the taste of Dharma's joy to beings afflicted by the hunger of afflictions. Thus it is said. For example, the essence of grains like rice salu, brao, and barley, if not taken out of the husk, and not refined by removing the husk etc., people cannot enjoy delicious food. Similarly, the Dharma Lord present in sentient beings, which is the Tathagatagarbha, when it exists in a body not liberated from the husk of afflictions, it will not give the taste of the joy of the sacred Dharma to those beings who are suffering from hunger and afflictions. The fourth analogy has three aspects: analogy, meaning, and combined explanation. First, for example, when walking on the road, someone's gold is lost and falls into a place of rotten garbage. This imperishable gold, there, just like that, exists for hundreds of years. Gods with pure divine eyes see it and say to people: Here is gold, refine this treasure, and accomplish deeds with the treasure. Thus it is said. For example, when walking on the road, due to negligence etc., someone's large piece of gold falls into a rotten garbage dump. Even after many years, that imperishable and indestructible gold remains in the garbage dump, just as it was before, unchanged for hundreds of years. Gods with pure divine eyes see that piece of gold in the garbage dump.
